    17. 17. Why is college- and career-readiness important?<br />Globally<br /> The US has fallen behind in the number of college graduates, now ranking 10th.<br />President Obama has said that college and career-readiness should be the goal for all students.<br />

Why is college- and career-readiness important?<br /> Locally<br />In Washington, D.C., only 29% of students go to college and only 9% graduate.<br />70% of jobs in D.C. require some postsecondary education.<br />Majority of D.C. young adults cannot get good jobs in their home town.<br />

Why is college- and career-readiness important?<br />For the Young People<br />They will have a better shot at success and promotion in a career.<br />They will be more likely to succeed in a postsecondary educational setting & graduate.<br />They will be more likely to earn a living wage and be competitive for advancement.<br />

CEU’s and Certification to teach freshman orientation at CCDC<br />Attendance is important<br />CCDC will award certification to be an adjunct professor for freshman orientation only with at least 80% attendance<br />30 hours of CEU’s will be awarded by RFC with the same attendance requirement<br />Certificates and letters for the CEU’s will be given at the end of the Institute or by September 1.<br />
