Nelson Mandela
Born: July 18th 1918
Died: December 5th 2013
Q)Who was he?
A) A South African anti-apartheid revolutionary,
politician, and philanthropist who was a former
President of South Africa.
Q) What did he do?
A) he was involved in anti-colonial politics, and after
the South African National Party came to power in
1948, he rose to prominence in the ANC's 1952
Defiance Campaign. In 1962, he was arrested,
convicted of conspiracy to overthrow the state, and
sentenced to life imprisonment in the Rivonia Trial.
Mandela then served over 27 years in prison, due to
campaigns he was then released and became South
Africa’s first black president.
Rosa Parks
Born: February 4th 1913
Died: October 24th 2005
Q)Who was she?
A) African-American civil rights activist; known as ‘The lady of
civil rights’
B) A) Q) What did she do?
A) On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks, boarded a Montgomery City
bus to go home from work. On this bus on that day, Rosa Parks
initiated a new era in the American quest for freedom and
equality. She sat near the middle of the bus, just behind the 10
seats reserved for whites. Soon all of the seats in the bus were
filled. When a white man entered the bus, the driver (following
the standard practice of segregation) insisted that all four blacks
sitting just behind the white section give up their seats so that the
man could sit there. Mrs. Parks quietly refused to give up her seat.
She was arrested and convicted of violating the laws of
segregation. Mrs. Parks appealed her conviction and thus formally
challenged the legality of segregation.
John F. kennedy
Born: May 29th 1917
Died: November 22th 1963

Q) What did he do?
A) John F. Kennedy was sworn in as the 35th
President on January 20, 1961. In his
inaugural speech he spoke of the need for all
Americans to be active citizens. He also
asked the nations of the world to join
together to fight what he called the
"common enemies of man: tyranny, poverty,
disease, and war itself."
Mother Teresa
Born: 26 August 1910
Died: 5 September 1997

Q)Who was she?
A) The Blessed Teresa of Calcutta
Q) What did she do?
A) Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity, a
Roman Catholic religious congregation, which in 2012
consisted of over 4,500 sisters and is active in 133 countries.
Mother Teresa was the recipient of numerous honours
including the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize.
Martin Luther King JR.
Born: January 15, 1929
Died: April 4, 1968

A) an American clergyman, activist,
humanitarian, and leader in the
African-American Civil Rights
Movement.
Q) What did he do?
A) He is most famous for leading the
march to Washington for freedom
and anti-segregation; where he
delivered his famous speech “I have

A) A nurse who wounded
soldiers and saved lives.
Q) What did she do?
A) Aided wounded soldiers in
hospitals and was the founder
of modern nursing
Marie Curie
Born: 7th November 1867
Died: 4th July 1934
Q)Who was she?
A) a Polish and naturalized-French physicist and
chemist
B) Q) What did she do?
A)She who conducted pioneering research on
radioactivity. She was the first woman to win a
Nobel Prize, the only woman to win in two fields,
and the only person to win in multiple sciences. She
was also the first female professor at the University
of Paris.
