My grandma's childhood describes the early education experiences of the author's two grandmothers. Latha attended St. Joseph's convent in Nagercoil until 5th grade, where she was dropped off and picked up daily by a servant and played with friends after school. Lakshmi attended multiple schools due to her father's work and lived in a smaller house, though she excelled in school despite poor marks on a test, becoming a group leader and scoring 98% on her final exam.

My maternal grandma's name is Latha. She studied in St.Joseph's convent, Nagercoil till 5th
grade. She lived in a big house with lots of room. A servant drops her at school and picks her up
every day. She carries her books in an aluminum suitcase. When she comes back home, she
plays games with her friends. Every morning, she goes to the river to take bath and brings back
a pot of water.
My paternal grandma's name is Lakshmi. She studied in many different schools due to her
father's work. She lived in a double bedroom house. She had 4 to 5 friends. She used to play
Kabadi game with her friends. She reads books and weekly magazines. In one of the monthly
tests she scored very low marks. In spite of that, her Head Master made her a group leader. In
the final exam she got 98 marks. Like my grandma I will also study hard and score high marks.
