2. Thanks to Rwandan government policy to make
primary education free, 95.9% of students; more
girls (97.5%) than boys (94.3%) are enrolled in
primary school (MINEDUC 2011), but completion
(24%), dropout (12.2%) and repetition rates (14%)
for both boys and girls, remain key challenges.
Rwanda is one of Africa’s poorest and most
densely populated nation. Half of its citizens are
under the age of eighteen and 45% live below the
poverty line.1994 GENOCIDE in Rwanda resulted
many Households headed by children and
families from historically marginalised
communities to be even more vulnerable.
3. Lack of development of skills and techniques that
is relevant to specific art forms for children,
Inadequate environment for Recognizing and
nurtures creative and aesthetic talents of
children,
SOLUTION: Children arts center have the aim of
increasing the value of the work and the
awareness of the artistic achievements among
underprivileged and underserved children in
Rwanda aged between 5-18 years old through a
ballet of traditional dance, contemporary dance,
African traditional dance and musical instrument
playing.
4. Creating partnership with primary and secondary schools from
the region of target.
Meeting with school leaders and students parents during the
school meeting to present our project to parents.
Recruiting students in different arts classes depending on the
interest of each student.
Communicating local leaders(sector and district) about the
project target to request permission of working and the
advertizing the project at different areas like churches, at
market,radio,news papers…through announcements, flayers
distribution and posters.
We are a team of 2 dancers(owners of the center) from traditional
dance;5 years of experience, contemporary dance and African
dance;4 years of experience and 1 drama professional; worked in
stars du theatre since 2008.
We will be recruting new technicians as our number of students
growing day to day and depending also on activities that we are
implementing.
5. Our project "children arts center” started on 3rd January 2013.
From 3rd January-29th january:We worked on project writing,
Contact school leaders, recruiting students and research on
the other organizations which have the similar projects.
1st February- 30th July 2013: 1st phase of the project
implementation; attracting children to come and visit those
who started and advertizing the project in the region where
we are based and building a partnership with professional
dance traditional troupe from the target region.
1st august-30 December 2013: Events organizing, festivals
attendance and expanding partnership with NGOs,Dance
troupe from other regions and registration of the business.
Starting 2014:evaluation and expanding our activities and
new recruitment of staff.
Since we started, we reached 50 students in 1 months, we
have attended 1 dance festival held in Kigali city, we built a
strong partnership with parents and they are appreciating the
project and among them 5 decided to become ambassadors
of the project.
