The magazine uses a very iconic “V” seen in every magazine behind the image of Kanye which represents the magazine but also draws the eye to Kanye as you follow the lines down they end up right next to him. The contents page masthead is also broken down into “co/nten/ts” so it draws the audience into actually reading what it says and makes them concentrate and more drawn into the magazine rather than skimming through. The colors work well and suggest the magazine will be concentrating on a very “cool and mellow” subject as the use of blue throughout the magazine, apart from the red heart that might connote what the story about Kanye will be based on. As well as this the text used is quite formal but easy to read so draws in all ages. The shot of Kanye West is a medium shot allowing the audience to see Kanye expression which is sad and may represent what the featured story on him might represent. 2. This contents page is used in the magazine ‘Q’. It uses a simple layout that works effectively by drawing the audience to the main features. The audience are immediately drawn to the image of The Courteeners connoting that they are a important feature of the magazine, labeled with the page number so it is easy to find. As well as this the features sub-headings are clearly laid out and state what page each section is on making it quick and easy for the audience to navigate as well as placed on the stereotypical right hand side of the magazine. The red and black colors used within the contents page also keep with the theme of “rock and roll”. Special features also draw in a larger audience and gain more interest such as an “Oasis Special!” mainly targeted towards the large oasis fan base, guaranteed to boost sales. 3. This contents page has typical features which you expect in a music magazine as all of the information is packed into a small area. All of the information is easily and quickly displayed to the and they know exactly what is going to be in the whole magazine. The page is laid out so that all of the page numbers are on the right hand side. The font on this contents page is informal generally targeting a young youth mainly between 13-25 keeping to its target audience and not try and appeal to a more formal audience. There is a subscription box in the bottom catching people’s attention by standing out as the rest of the background using a vibrant yellow font against a black background. The language used is informal and it uses simple sentences to get straight to the point. The audience for this magazine are a young youth enjoying rock music and indie rock, shown by the featured bands and the information that is presented. There is a medium shot of two band member from Oasis. This establishes who the main focus of the magazine will be featured upon. 4. The contents page layout used within the Kerrang magazine is very grid like and solid using more photos than text suggesting an appeal stereotypically to a younger audience. However the main focus image is the man tattooed who is clearly one of the main featured focuses being the largest image and drawing the most attention. The lure used within this contents page is “My favorite dance move is the spider walk” that grabs the readers attention and also suggests that famous people read this magazine therefore to be like them you need to read the magazine. Kerrang also keeps the conventional rock and roll colors of black and red, as well as using yellow which is an iconic color used throughout the magazines. The formal appearance suggests their target audience is older or a more sophisticated audience. The font used is also very stylish for the main heading connoting this as an up to date and current magazine. The font used throughout the rest of the magazine is formal using complex language describing what is happening within the magazine however is laid out very simply and clean so that the audience can easily follow through the magazine. The shot of Katy Perry is a long shot and this works as it gives a view of her whole figure which is a large ‘sex appeal’ as well as being able to see her outfit keeping up with the fashion theme. This magazine follows the typical format which you would expect in a fashion magazine and has a very up to date look which will attract a large audience connoting to them to keep up to date they need to buy this magazine.
