Ramadaan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. Fasting during daylight hours is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and is meant to bring worshippers closer to God and remind them of the suffering of the less fortunate. At the end of each day, families and communities gather to break their fast and engage in prayer, meals and spiritual contemplation.
