2. It is one of the most common
benign intracranial tumors that
comprises of 10-15% of all the brain
tumors.
The membrane-like structures that
surround the spinal cord and the
brain are called meninges.
Meningiomas develop in the
meninges.

3. Facts About Meningioma
Meningiomas are usually curable with Grade 0
to Grade 1 removal methods.
The tumor may cause pressure on the spinal
cord as well as the brain.
Constant direct pressure may cause thickening
of the adjacent bone or hyperostosis.
Meningiomas cannot be diagnosed until
symptoms start to appear.

11. Meningiomas are slow growing
tumors and it is difficult to diagnose
them until they start exerting
pressure on the surrounding
structures. Common diagnostic
tools are:
Diagnosis
CT scan
Contrast enhanced MRI

12. Treatment
Observation
As a Grade I meningioma grows slowly, active surveillance
may be recommended for some patient. During active
surveillance, the tumor is monitored and treatment would
begin if it started causing any symptoms or problems.
Surgery
Main and best option is the complete Micro-surgical removal
of the tumor. This may achieve the best cure. The main aim of
the surgery is to remove the meningioma completely along
with the dural attachment and infiltrated bone.

13. Radiation Therapy
If your meningioma can't be completely
removed surgically, your doctor may
recommend radiation therapy following
or instead of surgery.
