  6. 6. Regular Tea May Cause Stomach Ulcers In patients with duodenal ulcers, the hyper secretion of acid is the primary causative factor while in gastric ulcers; it is the weakened mucosal resistance to acid which causes ulcers. Therefore, all factors which increase acid secretion will play an important role in the etiology of ulcers.
  7. 7. Causative Factor:• A family history of ulcers.• One has irregular food habits and mentalstress or strain.• Peptic ulcers can be developed in highlynervous, emotional, ambitious or aggressiveindividuals.• It is also caused due to excessive consumptionof strong tea, coffee, spices, alcohol, tobacco anddrugs like steroids and analgesics.• Another important cause is smoking. It is verystrongly related to the occurrence of ulcers asnicotine present in cigarettes has avasoconstrictor effect resulting in reduces bloodflow to the mucosa and hence decreasedresistance.
  8. 8. Diet and Feeding Patter:During peptic ulcers one has to follow abland diet (which is free frommechanically, chemically and thermallyirritants) as recommended by thedietitian. One needs to take frequent feedings as toenable the stomach contents to becontinuously diluted and neutralized.Easily digestible fats like fat of wholemilk, egg yolk, cream and butter must beused in moderate amounts as theydecrease the emptying time of thestomach and reduce motility.
  9. 9. The quantity of food eaten should be small to avoid overfilling the stomach and causing distension. Avoid excessive spices or concentrated meat broths and extractives. Avoid frequent use of aspirin or other drugs that may damage the stomach linings. Foods like tough meats, fried foods, pickles, alcoholic beverages, strongly flavored vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, turnip, radish, garlic and onion should be avoided.www.bookmydoctor.com
