your energy level a boost!
Join us on Saturday, June 12 for our first annual Community Eco-Hike!
Starting at the municipal library on 5th Street, we will go on a walking tour that
takes us through five local parks. As we go, our guide will identify some of the more
unusual trees, plants and flowers that grow in our area. The guide will also stop
to identify and describe the birds or animals that we see along the way.
Dos
• Brown-bag your lunch! We’ll be stopping to eat beside
a beautiful waterfall. There will be no cafeteria or
vending machines.
• Take as many pictures as you like!
• Use the litter bins provided.
• Wear comfortable walking shoes.
• Invite a friend!
Don’ts
• Don’t litter or leave a trace.
• Don’t bring personal electronic devices.
• Don’t swim or dive in the river.
• Don’t harm the environment in any way.
This free event starts at 10:00 a.m. sharp and will last about 3 hours.
We will be limiting groups to 10 participants for each guide.
Hope to see you there!

SCENARIO AND INSTRUCTIONS
You can complete this learning situation after finishing the activities in the book It’s a Matter of Taste
in the Connecting Doors series.
Scenario
You are on the Healthy Lifestyle Committee
at your education centre. Your committee has
obtained student discounts at two local gyms
because you think it is important for everyone to
exercise. You received an email from a student
asking for help choosing which gym to join.
TASK 1
Instructions
• Read the email below from Jonathan, a student.
• Read the texts on two gym memberships on page 3 of this learning situation.
• Use the Master Charts on pages 4 and 5 of this learning situation to gather and organize information
about Jonathan and the gym memberships.
Dear committee member,
Hi, my name is Jonathan. I learned that students at our education centre can obtain discounts at two local
gyms. I don’t know which gym is better for me.
I am a very active person. I am involved in two sports: soccer and hockey. I’m looking for a place
to work out in my spare time. I just need basic equipment. I want to improve my cardio.
I am a very busy person. I have a son who is 7 years old and I have classes during the day, so I need
a gym that is open late. I need a place that is easy to get to (I have a car) and doesn’t cost much
money. I would rather pay month-to-month. If possible, I would like a gym that is part of a network.
Thank you for your help!
Jonathan
