6. Writing task (SAMPLE)
Your class went on a school trip on which several things
went wrong. The school is planning to complain to the
travel agent who organised the trip. The head teacher
has asked you to prepare a report.
• Describe the problems with the travel arrangements.
• Mention the problems with accommodation as well.
• Write about the impact those problems had on the
students’ experience of the trip.
Write your report in 220 -260 words in an appropriate
style
7. Introduction
This report presents the problems
encountered on the recent school trip
and makes a recommendation regarding
compensation.
8. Overview
A school trip to Caernarfon Castle in
Wales was organised and a party of 17
students and 3 teachers were hoping to
be able to
spend the time experiencing its unique
history and haunting beauty.
9. Problems encountered
One of the factors which contributed to an unsuccessful trip
was the bus provided for the journey. We travelled with a
total number of twenty people and a vehicle which could
accommodate this number had been requested. On the day
of the trip, a bus with a capacity of fifteen arrived and we
were informed no other vehicle was available. This led to a
number of passengers having to stand for part of the journey.
In addition to this, on arriving at the hostel we were informed
that the rooms would not be ready for three more hours. This
seriously reduced the time we could spend at the Castle and
contributed greatly to the exhaustion of the whole party.
10. Recommendations
I would definitely advocate demanding a
full refund as it was clear that the
requirements outlined for the trip were
either ignored
or disregarded. Furthermore, I recommend
the school seek a more reliable tour
agency for future school trips.
11. Conclusion
In the light of the great dissatisfaction
of those who took part in the trip, I
have no hesitation in suggesting this
course of action should be followed.
