1. Banthrax Posi-Dome™ I-Box DE
Model XI-PDI5-DU0E
.
The Posi-Dome™ I-Box DE enclosure is the workstation configuration well suited for routine laboratory
or shop use for special atmosphere processing. While it can be used for sterile/aseptic applications,
clean air injection options must be added for such applications, it is configured for inert, anaerobic,
hypoxic or other controlled atmosphere processing upon installation without modification or addition of
anything other than user supplied low pressure gas for injection (inner atmosphere injection & purge
gas). Like all pressurized Posi-Dome™ glove box cabinets, this configuration provides workplace
isolation and specimen/process protection in a compact, flexible, workstation with fail-safe containment.
While it is simpler and smaller than most special atmosphere glove box isolators, it relies on gas
displacement rather than high-vacuum purge. The chamber can provide a controlled atmosphere with
H2O, O2, etc. maintained at from a fraction of a percent down to a few hundred PPM, depending on the
purge and operating protocols used. Cabinet specifications are as follows:

Maximum Pressure: 25 cm of H20 Gage = 2450 Pascals Gage = 9.8” of H2O Gage
Filter(s): Whatman HEPA-Vent (Ulpa filter & double filter options available)
Other flow control: check valve, bellows & liquid trap (Proprietary Pressure Controls)
Inert/Special Purge System: Displacement bladder purge, multi-cycle/low pressure, high

2. Safety Indicators: Unlike a laminar-flow bench or Class II BSC, Posi-Dome™ workstations
put full responsibility of monitoring and the power to ensure clean operation in control of the user.
The reliability, calibration and integrity of sensors and logical robustness of software are not
requirements for isolation in the Posi-Dome™ cabinet. If the laws of physics are in effect, the
operator can monitor and control containment. Here is how it works:
ELEMENT FUNCTION / USE
Gas Injection User supplied inner-atmosphere gas is injected into the enclosure when the
user opens a valve to allow the low-pressure gas to flow in through the port in
the right side of the cabinet.
Bubble Gage User can read pressure on the air column in bubble gage dip tube; also, gas
bubbles as it flows through the liquid. The sound of bubbling lets users know
that gas flow to the cabinet continues to create and maintain the special
atmosphere in the chamber. If a user doesn’t hear these bubbles for over a
minute, this lets her/him know it is time to check the pressure. This pressure
can be read directly by observing the length of the air column in the bubble
gage dip tube (no calibration or sensor testing is required). This is a form of
simple liquid-gas manometer.
Bellows The sight of the red bellows bottom floating above the cabinet base is a
constant and instantaneous indicator of cabinet internal pressure. If there is
no gas pressure inside, there is nothing to hold the bellows up, so it must fall
to the base. So long as it floats in the gas, the user can easily see it while
working, knowing that the dome is pressurized so that outside air and
contaminants cannot leak into the chamber.
If the bellows moves too rapidly, the user knows that her/his motions in the
cabinet are too severe, and could threaten protective pressurization. This
operator feedback empowers the user to adjust hand movements to help
maintain or control inside pressure without excessive gas consumption.
