Alexander Hamilton was a founding father of the United States who made major contributions to the country's founding and early development. He wrote most of the Federalist Papers and served as the first Secretary of the Treasury. However, in 1804, his ego led him to accept a duel challenge from Aaron Burr, which resulted in Hamilton's death from a gunshot wound later that day at the age of 47. Though Hamilton was highly intelligent and accomplished, his pride ultimately cost him his life in a duel, demonstrating how even brilliant minds can be destroyed by ego.

the first secretary of the treasury, setting precedents for future
occupants of that role.

documents that were far ahead of its time; documenting the
science of politics, breakdown of empires of the past, and
supporting the basis of division of powers, checks and
balances, a judiciary that was by

By all accounts, he was an intellectual and a scholar and the
fact that his ideas are so solidly stood by is a testament to his
brilliance.
In 1804, he was challenged to a duel with pistols
Aaron Burr, the man who challenged him, did it because
Hamilton had been writing nasty things about his character
while he was running for Governor of New York.
On July 11, 1804, Burr got the best of Hamilton, and
Hamilton’s shot hit a tree branch.
The duel was in the morning. He died in the afternoon.
Probably one of the brightest minds—Killed from his own
ego, at a time when the country was abolishing duels because
they were a dumb way to settle disputes.
And yet, even someone as smart as Hamilton fell victim to his
pride.
Burr ended up in trouble too, and he was tried in court for
murder and later acquitted.
His political career suffered as a result of that event, too.
Hamilton lost his life at 47. He’s an idiot when it came to his
pride and a genius when it came to legally framing and
defending the document they still abide by today
