After Independence, the need of Industrial and Social economic growth
was felt and along with various projects by the Government, came into
existence THE Company Named HMT, Hindustan Machine
Tools in 1953 at Banglore, Karnatka for the manufacturing of
Machine tools.The constantly growing demand for machine tools
promoted the company to conceive a planned approach to
diversification and expansion , which resulted in setting up units all
over India.

HMT LIMITED,
PINJORE
On OCTOBER 23rd , 1963, then Prime Minister Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru
declared open the 3rd unit of HMT factory at Pinjore, situated 22kms
from Chandigarh.
This factory was designed , built and commissioned by Indian talent,
without any foreign collaboration, in record period of 17 months, at a
capital investment of Rs. 75 lacs.
HMT established Tractor plant at Pinjore, in 1971, to provide impetus
to the country’s green revolution. To begin with, it started assembly of
25 H.P Tractor in collaboration with M/s Motokov of
Czecholoslovakia , manufacturer of Zetor model of tractor.
Pinjore was selected for the project because it was within the high
density crop producing region , providing immediate market vicinity.
 To look after the foreign assignments of the Company, HMT (I)
was formed at Banglore , Karnatka.
 HMT Pinjore has a capacity of manufacturing over 20000
thousand tractors per year.
 The company has a assembly unit at Hyderabad where 35 HP
tractors are assembled through CKD and SKD from Pinjore.
The tractor project started earning profits in 3years and with complete
indigestion and increase in production, more capital investment was
done in manufacturing shops. In TRP ( Tractor production), HMT has
the following shops to manufacture various tractor components and
assembly of tractors:
