Overview
Media Arts 11/12 focuses on developing the knowledge, skills, and attitudes students need to respond to media artworks and
create art.
Communication
Communication is the act of transferring information from one person to another. Digital Media 11/12 will help students
to express themselves through visual communications. Our world is becoming increasingly visual. People are constantly
exposed to visual imagery; everyone needs to develop the skills and understanding to read this imagery.
Design
Design is not a mysterious force put into an art work. The elements and principles of design are used to make
communication clearer. Effective design also can create a style or feeling for a product or idea. A design must consider its
content, its purpose, its medium, and the audience for whom it is meant. Throughout the year the elements and
principles of design will be stressed.
Skills
Techniques of creating art are sometimes very complex. There are many different ways to create an image. The more
techniques that an artist is able to employ, the more flexible they will become in creating just the desired outcome.
Students will learn a wide variety of specific camera and software skills.
Course Content
This is a project-based course. Nearly all learning outcomes will be demonstrated by the creation of projects.
There are written components to most projects. These written components are used to provide you with an opportunity
to explain the intention of the image and provide for self-reflection.
The photography component of projects is mostly about your ability to take photos according to the assigned criteria.
