2. What is Clostridium Difficile?
A bacterial infection in the intestines
• SYMPTOMS
• Liquid diarrhea 10-15
times daily
• Abdominal pain/nausea
• Swollen abdomen
• Dehydration
• Weight loss
3. 4 WAYS TO PREVENT
1. HAND HYGIENE
2. BLEACH
3. ISOLATION
4. ENVIORNMENTAL SERVICES
5. BLEACH
• Use bleach wipes to clean all surfaces
• Allow to dry for 5 minutes minimum
6. ISOLATION
• Place in contact
precautions if diarrhea
is present
• Place in contact
precautions if infection
is suspected
• Send a stool sample to
the lab
7. ENVIORNMENTAL SERVICES
All surfaces are cleaned with bleach at discharge
SOME SURFACES INCLUDE:
• Markers and dry erase eraser
• Bed
• Bedside table
• Call light
• Monitor cords
• ALL OTHER HARD SURFACES
