Now, are some who have tried to suggest that we didn't
win this election nearly as much as the other guy lost it.
Frankly, I think that belittles a lot of voters -- but
everyone is entitled to their opinion.
I do want to congratulate Jefferson Smith for finishing this
race with dignity and class. As you know we spent a lot
of time together in the over 80 debate and forums we
endured. And the man I saw in these past few weeks was
humbled and trying to focus on the issues that truly
matter to voters.
I hope in the days and weeks to come that the folks who
voted for Jefferson realize that I am deeply committed to
being a mayor for ALL of Portland -- to making sure that
EVERY neighborhood is safe, clean & green -- and most

2. of all, prosperous! I am deeply committed that we each
have the SAME ACCESS to good schools performing at a
higher level, graduating more of our kids & better
preparing them for successful employment.
I am deeply committed to making sure that we ALL have
access to family wage jobs -- and I am deeply committed
to helping change the culture of our police force so that
EVERY citizen receives the same level of protection and
that we are taking care of the mentally ill among us,
rather than shooting unarmed citizens.
We ALL deserve a clean Willamette River -- A Columbia
River crossing bridge that works -- and a transportation
system that meets the needs of EVERYONE from the
teenager trying to get to school to the elderly trying to
age as independently as possible in the own place.
We do truly live in a great place -- and I believe our best
days are ahead of us -- but we have some great
challenges as well. I have heard the voters tell me time
and again as we knocked on thousands of doors and held
coffee's in hundreds of living rooms -- that they want a
true leader -- one they can count on.
I am that guy! And with your help, we will move to
action--minimizing the drama, but maximizing results!
