popular chain Starbucks is helping to
improve Amman’s cityscape
A imed at fostering the spirit of volunteerism
and community among youths in the Middle
East, Starbucks’ Community Connections was
set up three years ago across nine of its regional
markets. As part of ongoing global efforts in
giving back and delivering lasting positive
impacts to local communities wherein they
operate, Starbucks recently launched a cleanup
initiative in Jordan where employees and
volunteers got to work hand-in-hand to repaint
the sidewalks and walls in the neighborhood of
its Deir Ghbar outlet in West Amman.
The Deir Ghbar Cleanup, part of the
Seattle-based coffeehouse chain’s Community
Connections program, was a follow-up to a
similar initiative started earlier this year around
its 7th Circle branch. Customers and Starbucks
employees (known as “partners”) gathered
to clean the streets and beautify the area.
Additionally, during Ramadan, Starbucks Jordan
held an Iftar for children from the Dar Al Aman
center, where on top of the dinner and dance
show, partners gave school supplies to the kids.
According to Regional Communications
& CSR Manager Rana Shaheen, Starbucks’
volunteer network has been expanding in
Jordan and region-wide. “This campaign has
encouraged the participation of our fellow
citizens and the cooperation of our official
representatives,” she added.
