2. Creating a distinctive brand identity
The first part of the opening credits we
are introduced to a location, we
instantly know it is the east end as we
can see the River Thames running
through the middle of the clip. We also
see the O2 which we know is in London.
The starting credits introduce the
audience to where the soap is set by
using famous parts of the city.
The institution which broadcasts this soap is the BBC, we know this as when the starting credits
finish we see the title Eastenders and the BBC logo underneath. By the cheesiness of the music
we assume the location isn’t in an upper class setting and people may struggle with money so
their lifestyles won’t always go to plan by the tone of the music towards the end of the starting
credits, it intrigues the audience to find out what is going to happen throughout the episode. The
drum beat at the start of the credits gives off the feeling that a lot of drama and intriguing
storylines occur regularly in this soap.
3. Eastenders
In the first clip that we see when the scene starts the
audience is aware that the scene is set in a family
household by the items we see to the right. We see a
football, blue bags, a blue t-shirt and a football, this
makes the audience realise a boy lives in this household.
In the corner we can also see two pink objects which also
gives the feel that this boy may have a younger sister.
The next important clip we see is a man who looks
like he is sneaking out of the house, maybe he is the
children’s dad leaving for work early and doesn’t want
to wake the family up. We get this impression as he is
wearing his socks to keep quiet and puts his shoes on
by the door.
4. Eastenders
We now know there is a young girl who is living in this
house, we know this as there is feminine toys in pink
lying around on the stairs. As well as the feminine toys
lying around this gives the feeling that it’s a family home
as their parents may struggle to keep the house tidy.
A woman then appears coming down the stairs tying
her dressing gown up. This gives the impression that
she’s cheap and he may have been using her the
previous night, we get the feeling he has been using
her as he is sneaking out of the house early morning
to try and avoid seeing her
5. Eastenders
On this next clip we see after the woman has spoken
about saying goodbye we get the impression that this
man doesn’t really have any feelings towards this lady.
We also know this lady owns the home as the deco is very
dated from the dated animal print wallpaper and the old
fashioned picture frame on the left.
The mans facial express is quickly changed, he
now looks like he’s regretting something, maybe
from the previous night. He is looking at the floor
after the woman has spoke to him like he has
nothing to say to her.
6. Eastenders
The scene then quickly changes to a glamorous women.
Her appearance doesn’t fit in with the surrounding. She
looks like she spends a lot of time to get ready to please
other people and maybe quite insecure about her
appearance and her lifestyle . She is trying to look richer
than she actually is.
The speech in this slide is very important as we
know she gets used from other men and doesn’t
get much respect, her facial expression also gives
the viewer this impression.
7. Eastenders
The peaking through the chair shot of this man clearly
states he is some kind of baddie in this episode as he is
based in a dark room and has an evil laugh expressed on
his face. The room is quite old and messy this gives us the
feeling his job may be secretive from other people.
This screenshot backs up the impression we have
of this woman that she makes her look that certain
way so she gets noticed by men, it may even be her
job but this shows that she definitely doesn’t like
some of the male attention she gets.
