2. Hazel Dyson - VIsual Mixed Media and Ceramic Artist.
Hazel Dyson
I am currently a student at Batley School of Art studying a Foundation Degree in Ceramics. My main
concentration is focused on ceramic surfaces and surface design.
Previously I studied on a Access to Higher Education course where I discovered my interest in
Ceramics and carried it forward onto a BTEC Foundation course. There after I decided I'd like to
further my study and learn more about Ceramics and its working practice, which is why I enrolled at
Batley School of Art. Since having done so, I have identified that my primary enthusiasm is
concentrated on surface which is inspired by nature and organic forms, I'm inspired by Artists such
as Cy Twombly, Jose Parla, Peter Volkas and Ewen Henderson. My aim is to design surfaces using
mixed media and translate them into a Ceramic form.
I'm an experimental artist on paper and in Ceramics, I use and incorporate different materials to
create surface. Such as coffee, tea, dirt, sand, house-hold cleaners, DIY products and sawdust for
example. I build up layers to create an interesting surface texture so that there is an interactive
element to my work.
After completing my Foundation Degree, I hope to progress further onto a Fine Art Degree course to
achieve a BA.
