Consider the case of a

referred to the counselor because he was “simply out of
control.” While the teacher’s referral highlighted some form of
dif

culty with Emile’s behavior, the counselor knew that a more
speci

c and concrete articulation of “out of control” was
needed. Follow-up with the teacher presented the FEW scenario
as concrete illustrations of Emile’s behaviors of real concern.
