Eratosthenes of Cyrene was a famous Greek mathematician, astronomer, and historian born in 276 BC who died in 195 BC. He was a dear friend of Archimedes and is known for designing the first universal map and calculating the circumference of the Earth. He solved a mathematical problem involving finding the edge length of a cube with twice the volume of a cube with an edge length of 2 cm, which is the cube root of 16, or 4.
