2. Milk
• We drink Milk today to keep us Healthy. It contains
much of the Nutrients we need. Milk was given free in
Schools to children to help them to grow.
• In the 1960s, Milk was widely used in Baking
(Custard/Rice Pudding/Bread and Butter Pudding)
• Milk was also used for Butter and Cheese Production.
• It was given to children when they were ill.
• Milk is still very important today.
4. Corn Flakes
• Corn Flakes were enjoyed by many families in the 1960s. Kellogg’s
Cereals possibly came from America, but weren’t locally produced.
Only Kellogg’s Corn Flakes and Rice Krispies were common.
• Compared to Porridge or Fries, Corn Flakes were a quick and easy
Breakfast as there was no preparation involved.
• There were tokens to collect with each Box of Cereal and these
could be used to get toys/bowls, etc. and this helped them to
become more popular with the children.
• Today, many varieties of Kellogg’s Cereal are available, but Corn
Flakes are still popular. How did the Corn Flakes compare with the
usual local foods people eat? How did the Packaging help to expose
people to new foods? How did it keep the Food fresh?
