1/ MALAYAN CONFIDENCE Since achieving independence in 1961, Malaya became confident;- improved in the standard living of people and economic
2/ COMMUNISTS THREAT IN SINGAPORE By merging with Singapore could help them fight against communists.
3/ ECONOMIC ADVANTAGES Singapore;- port most important in Southeast Asia and having 1.7 million population with 2000 manufacturing firms.
Sabah, Sarawak & Brunei were known to have abundance of natural resources such as oil, rubber, timber, rubber and pepper. All of this would make MALAYSIA a wealthy country if merge.
4/CULTURAL SIMILARITIES Sabah, Sarawak & Brunei had a predominantly Malay population. Singapore had large numbers of Chinese population would balance with the Chinese in Malaya.
5/ENCOURAGE INDEPENDENCE Only Malaya had achieved its independence in 1957. If Singapore, Sabah, Sarawak & Brunei joined Malaysia, they would achieve full independence from Britain.
