The 1971 Supreme Court case of Wisconsin v. Yoder presented by Angela Marburger. In 1968, three Amish families sued Wisconsin over its compulsory education law requiring children to attend school until age 16. The Amish preferred removing children after 8th grade. In 1972, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Amish families, finding that the additional two years of schooling would not significantly impact the children's knowledge or ability to be self-sufficient adults, and that compulsory attendance infringed upon freedom of religion protected by the First Amendment.
