Why do people fail to achieve their goals?
Recently I did a small survey of friends (You can give your opinion by clicking on the link in the box below) about why they think people fail to reach their goals and the a lack of planning was the main culprit.
Missing plan and missing passion
Of the points attributed to each reason, the largest at 25% was assigned to "They didn't know the steps to take to achieve their goals". The next most substantial reason for failure was due to a "Lack of commitment to the goal" this was chosen 19% of the time by those surveyed.
People also failed because they were lazy, fearful, or foggy
The following reasons were equally chosen 11% of the time by respondents "Their goals were not clear", "Fear of failure", and "They didn't work hard enough to achieve their goals"
The last three years were the most productive of my life
The last three years were very productive, I wrote three books, created my Life Planner, made three online courses, launched three investment funds, created and taught seven different seminars, started one new business, supported the CEO of the coffee business I co-own, fulfilled my duties as President of CFA Society Thailand, spent two months of each year staying at my mom and dad's home in US, and finished my PhD in finance. Whew! How did I do it? I followed my own method that I have developed over the years.
5 keys to my success: Belief, Goals, Plans, Actions, Support
Over the years I have learned how to build belief that I can achieve the goals I want to reach. I spend a lot of time getting my goals super clear. After that I map out the steps necessary to reach that goal. My next step is probably my most controversial, when it comes to action...what I like to say is "start with doing nothing". To me, action is one of the main reasons we fail to reach our goals. The last key is to get help, there is no way that you can achieve your big goals alone!
