How to be the most Interesting Person in the Room
http://www.empowernetwork.com/and1122/blog/how- to- be- the- most- interesting- person- in- the- room?id=and1122 December 29, 2012

Well, here we are, up to our eyes in holidays. I’m a people person and
enjoy get togethers, but when I’m tired I sometimes dread standing
around and making small talk.
Here’s a f ew ways you can make t he evening int erest ing.

Don’t be af raid t o ask daring quest ions. When in conversation, you can choose to continually
circle around boring, ordinary items such as the weather, but I’d rather really
get to know somebody. Chances are, they’d love to have a REAL
conversation, too. And you can be certain that yours is about to be the
most interesting conversation they’ve had in a while. How can you do this
without:

A) Of f ending t hem

Or

B) Making sure t o t alk about somet hing in t heir f ield of int erest ?

You seize on something they say, of course! Here’s an example.

“My goodness, I’m in still such a fog from work, I’m sorry if I seem distracted.”

Most people would simply say, “Oh no, you’re fine,” which cuts off any real conversation.

But what if you then said, “What happened at work?”

You’ll be surprised how pleased people are to talk about what’s really on their minds! And all you
have to do is seize on the most interesting part of whatever it is they have to tell you, and
suddenly you’re having a truly fascinating conversation. If you’re at a party, you’ll find other people
beginning to drift towards your conversation. Keep your body language open and your face
relaxed and happy if you’d like to invite others in, and try including them in the conversation when
they move closer-like this: “Mary, Amy’s just telling me about her boss from hell.”

Be memorable. Most people dress much like one another. The men are all wearing sweaters and
slacks; the women are wearing layers and jeans: whatever the uniform, if you go outside it, you’ll
stand out. If you are friendly and approachable too, you’ll find yourself the focus of a lot of
attention, especially if you have GOOD POSTURE, which we’ll discuss tomorrow.

Try wearing unusual shoes, like pink sneakers, or perhaps a bowtie. Fashionable eyeglasses are a
great way to look sharp and stand out, and they make a great prop while you’re talking, too. You
can take them off and gesture with them, put one of the earpieces between your lips when
listening, look over the tops while smiling… the possibilities are endless, and a lot of fun.

Other options: a bolo tie, an unusual pair of gloves or a belt, or a fabulous hat.

Perhaps most importantly of all, Be Conf ident and
Approachable. Stand up straight, and give a relaxed,
happy-to-see you smile to everyone. Wink if it’s
happy-to-see you smile to everyone. Wink if it’s
appropriate, and make sure to keep eye contact
whenever someone is talking to you. Before you
know it, you’ll all be having a wonderful time.

Here’s t o merrymaking!
