KNOWING THE EFFECTS OF
RELIGION IS IMPORTANT
1. How religion affects the way people live their
lives
2. Why people are attracted to religion and
what makes people desire to be among its
members.
3. Whether religion plays or does not play a
role in the perpetual tension between peace
and violence in society.
4. Whether religion unites or divides people,
societies, and civilizations, or both.
Mircea Eliade
Mircea Eliade

MORAL LIFE
Morality – a set of guiding

MORAL LIFE
Religions affect the moral behaviour
and character of a person.
- Positively, religions teach us how to
conduct ourselves
Example:
◂ Christians follow the Ten Commandments of
Christ
◂ The Muslim follow religiously the Five Pillars and
the commandments written by the prophet
Muhammad in the Qur’ an.

- For Buddhist, living a good life means
overcoming suffering – to be liberated from a life
or suffering.
- Buddhists believe that one can only live a beautiful
life if such life is devoted to contemplation and
overcoming one’s attachment to material possessions
that cause suffering.
- For Christianity, teaches that life is priceless for it is
a gift from God, believe that the ultimate way of
living a good life is to follow the commandment of
Jesus Christ: “love one another as you love yourself”

◂ Religions have a psychological effect,
they have been an important vehicle
for shaping and conditioning people’s

TRANSCENDENTAL LIFE
◂ Religions, fill out space that separates
