Website Analysis: Fox News
Fox News is a very useful and informative website. The site contains many news stories
from all over the world. These stories have a wide variety of topics from business to politics;
from entertainment to science; from weather to current events. Fox News is one of the most
viewed websites for Americans today. This web page provides a new form of receiving current
events quickly across the world. Although this website holds positive organizational designs, it
also has a few negative organizational strategies.
Fox News has a form of storyboards across the top of the website that allows viewers to
navigate the page according to their interests. Another proficient storyboard feature is that the
website has options to use Fox News website for different Medias and for different cultures. For
examples FoxNews Radio or FoxNews Latino. One thing that would help Fox News storyboards
by more user-friendly is to have all of the different links and tabs in alphabetical order. This
would allow users to find the story they want in a shorter amount of time.
Another great tool Fox News uses on the web page is ascending and descending
organization. Fox News does this by putting the most current material at the top of the page and
then the least current at the bottom of the web page. This form of website organization makes it
helpful for individuals to see the most recent and up to date information. With Fox News having
2. multiple headlines and stories daily, they should use Continuum organization. Doing so will
allow viewers to see the most important stories to individuals; verses stories with lower ratings in
which viewers have less interest in. Continuums are very helpful when using a website with
several different pieces of information, for example YouTube uses rating and reviews for all of
the videos on that page.
Fox News uses very small boarder lines to separate the different information apart from
each other, but the information in each boarder is all mixed together. By using an organizational
table/ spread sheet, Fox News would be able to keep the different Breaking News headlines into
categories. This way audiences can see more clearly the different stories and can decide “do I
want to watch the latest politics news stories or stories over sports”.
Lastly, Fox News website has all of their materials on the main page and grouped
together without any form of organization. Looking at the site, it is very hard to see what is a
story or an advertisement. The home page has so much information on it that it deters there
audiences. Having all of the different materials on the home page makes the page hard to view
which creates a difficult stage for viewers to find the few stories they may want to assess. To
help Fox News have their materials more organized they should take off all of the stories on the
main page and have them only in the storyboards provided; then putting the breaking news of the
day on the home page. Making these changes will allow the site to have a clearer visual for users.
One of the most helpful tools on the website Fox News, is the search bar. Having this
creates a fast and easy process to finding the one story an individual wants to see. The only
difficulty with the search bar is that it is very hard to find. A user must click on the little box next
to the Facebook button and creating the search bar to open up. It would be much simpler to have
the search bar visible and ready to use.
3. This website not only uses effective organization, but they also use visual elements to
pull in their readers. They have images with every head line and videos with some of the stories
as well. Fox News uses the right amount of texts in the materials providing all of the important
information, but without the text being too long. The webpage creates a great form of media for
gathering news quickly and efficiently. Fox News is a great web page to use and is
recommended.
This revision is very simple but easy to access. By taking out all of the additional videos
of the week. The page will not be full of random materials and images. All of the stories are on
the Fox News page still, but simply in the storyboards provided. This creates a very organized
layout for users. The storyboards have been arranged in alphabetical order excluding the home
page. Having the home page to the far left will make the website easy for users to always get to
the page they started on quickly. Having the storyboards in alphabetical order will help find the
categories and stories that Fox News audiences are looking for.
4. The Home page will have only the Toped Rated News of the day. This is to keep the page
from creating confusion. Each story on Fox News has ratings and reviews for viewers of the
site. This will make the page more personal to audiences and allows them to decide if they want
to view the video based on the ratings the story received. The top right shows the Search bar. The
search bar is visible and fast to use. The search bar will help individuals view certain videos or
stories they want to gain knowledge over. Creating these changes will make the Fox News
website much more enjoyable for their viewers.
