2. A few definitions…
Why is copyright important
to me?
Copyright laws affect how I
can use information and for
what purposes. This means
that when I find information
that I want to use, I have to
make sure I am allowed to
use it from the copyright
owner!
Copyright…
Is a set of rules that tells us
how we are allowed to use
material and content we
have access to
3. A few definitions…
Intellectual property…
When someone comes up
with an idea or an invention,
it is their intellectual
property, and it belongs to
them.
Why is intellectual property
important to me?
If I am using someone
else’s ideas or invention, it
is their intellectual property,
and I must cite them to give
them credit for their ideas.
4. A few definitions…
Citations…
Are a set of rules/guidelines
that I need to follow in order
to credit somebody when I
use or talk about their
intellectual property.
Why are citations important
to me?
It is important to use
citations to give credit
where it is needed. If I do
not provide a citation when I
use somebody else’s work
or ideas, I would be
plagiarizing.
5. A few definitions…
Plagiarism…
Is when somebody uses
someone else’s work or ideas
without giving credit to the
original creator.
Why does plagiarism matter
to me?
Plagiarism is against the law,
and there are serious
consequences for people
who plagiarize. I can make
sure I don’t plagiarize by
always providing citations for
work and ideas that aren’t my
own, especially when I’m not
sure if I need them.
