What does equality mean to me? It means treating everyone with fairness and respect, but most
importantly recognizing the needs of individuals. Thus, free of discrimination, hatred and
intolerance. Treating people with respect and dignity is essential in working in a way that promotes
equality.
It is often said that we learn from our past, but is that really true? Inequality gave existed in our
society for thousands of years; from the kings versus the surfs in the medieval times, to the treatment
of slaves, to the inequalities of women. Today equality is viewed in many different ways. Therefore,
to fully understand equivalence, the opportunity, gender, and economics are some types of
equalities that need to be examined. To start with, for equality to be truly achieved every single
person on this planet has to have the opportunity to the same access of knowledge and programs,
in order for them to succeed. Today, we divide and segregate so much, in terms of being equal for
certain groups. For example, you see this often in scholarships for school. Where you are chosen
based on your ethnicity; women have a higher chance to win general scholarships, but men have a
higher chance to win athletic scholarships. Neither birth, nationality, color, religion, sex nor any

Although we think that equality is something good and that everyone should be equal, equality

Reflection About Equality
When people jump into the question of whether or not the world knows equality, I find myself
listening to people who believe that our society has become one that includes everyone. However, I
wasn't able to create an answer to this question for myself. Growing up as a closeted and eventual
openly gay teenager in a world where hetorsexuality dominates society has had me teetering on

Equality can be used in many contexts, as the general definition is "the state or quality of being
equal or that one thing equals another; likeness. In this paper I would like to explore equality as
dealing wholly with life experiences in general. At first my definition of equality was that everybody

How far should the society go when treating someone with equality and equity? Equality and
equity should be displayed only to the extent that it is right in God's eyes. When both equity and
equality come together in a Godly way all people from all societies will benefit successfully
through equity, be equal with genders and races, and the outcomes will help some or all of the

Equity can come with success because in society people can get their needs met but not everything
that people need is good. An equity example is a student is struggling in grammar, but another student
is really advanced in grammar. So what the teacher does is give the student that struggles help, and
the advanced kid higher level grammar. Both of these students have very different needs but the
success was that both students learned and understood grammar. Another example is a little girl
wants the boy's toy, so the little girl starts throwing a tantrum. The little girl needs the toy to make
the tantrum stop, but does the parent take away the toy from the boy to make the girl stop? Of
course not. What a good parent would do is discipline their child. In this case, equity didn't turn out
as a success, but some things that people need in society are not always good for their life. In

The concept of equality between men and women has been heavily deliberated for the past few
decades, but as we discussed in class throughout the week, it's become increasingly clear that

My classmate, Elise Favvia, added to this by dictating how, as a STEM major, she often sees
women underrepresented in the field as well as noting that many other western nations allow
women paid maternity leave, while the United States has yet to. Overall, these were my initial

group discussion and class discussion, I realized that I focused on the surface issues but I

Did you know that the lowest ranking female in a pack of hyenas have a higher rank than the
highest male of that pack? This is drastically different from that of the social structure of humans in
most societies. Even though women are soft and delicate, women deserve equality because they are
compassionate, intelligent, strong, and work as hard compared to men. Women can defuse a
situation in a compassionate, intellectual manner and work hard at it until peace is reached. Women
should be treated equally to men because they have the same qualities in most areas as men and have
qualities that some men lack.

Higher education is a growing concern of many of the young, middle, and elder generations. Just as

number of men to women are very close (Howden & Meyer, 2011). The women who go on to
attain a Bachelor's degree or more was more than 35%, more than 10% above the men (United States
Census Bureau, n.d.). Between the ages of 25–29 with a Bachelor's degree or more, women have
been on a steady incline since the 1940s as opposed to men (United States Census Bureau, n.d.).
Women have the educational experience and drive to earn equal pay doing the same work. There is
no doubt that women have the intelligence as college attendance have proven. With women making
up half of the population and increased educational attainment, it is justified that they are treated
fairly.
Women can be seen working in nearly all fields of occupation. Women's work output can easily be

Equity vs Equality. Over the years, multiple distinguished authors, politicians, teachers, and
philosophers have weighed with their opinion. Equality is ultimate state of being equal in all things,
including opportunists, states, and rights. Equity, on the other hand, describes being fair and
impartial in all situations. Words that are so similar yet, completely different. Equity is being fair,
and being fair doesn't always mean being completely equal to everybody. Equality, sounds good
however as time has shown equality is only beneficial if everyone has the same advantages and all
benefit equally from the system . What happens when everyone does not have the same inborn
advantages? We begin to have unfair disadvantages aimed at marginalized people. Equity is the path
that as a society, we must take in order to improve. Sherman Alexie, in the essay, "Superman and
Me", argues that as a minority, he was at a disadvantage in the education system and struggled to find
footing. The author supports his argument by illustrating his early childhood life and educational
struggles in detail. Alexie's purpose is to alert teachers of the troubles that minorities go through, so
that society inserts equity into the education system. Certainly, Alexie's illustration of his childhood
struggles are an enlightening experience. While he does not directly address the question, it does

been used since Jim Crow when southern schools installed the mentality of 'separate but equal'. This
mentality exhibited that even though they were separate, nothing was ever truly equal. This
