What is Home? Essay
What is home? If one looks in a dictionary the answer would come out to be, "The place where one
lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household." However, for anyone who
has had an actual home, they would know that such a term goes much beyond its concrete
description. It is an impassioned aspect filled with values and foundation of nurturing. A home is
not just an abode built to live in; in fact, that is just a definition of a house. Home is a place where
one not only feels comfortable, but a place they look forward to opportunely live in every day. A
home is built not by bricks or wood, but with the bond of family. A home is a place that reminds a
person of countless memories and values when he walks through a...show more content...
Family is what makes a house a home; this statement is undeniably precise. A person could have
every material entity in the entire world, but it would mean nothing if he does not have someone
to share it with. In other words, home is also semantically related to sharing the happiness, grief,
and material things with one's family. A home gives people a place to care about the people that
mean the most to them. It is a place to tell amusing tales, a good story, or make memorable
memories with one another. Furthermore, home is more than a place; it is a feeling. It is a
feeling of contentment and happiness that they share with the ones they love. Moreover, home is
when one knows they are with people that can drive them insane in a second, and the same people
can make them happy in a second as well. Home means that no matter what one is going through,
no matter how challenging life gets, there will be someone looking out for them. One knows that a
place is their home when they are comfortable enough to present a true description of themselves,
because they know that they will receive definitive acceptance. It is a sanctuary for them where
they can do anything they please and not be judged afterwards. It is where one can share the
absurdity of their day without any remorse or repercussions. The reason why people say that a
person only has one true home is because one will

Definition Essay – Genre
"Genre," in the most generic definition, takes the meaning "kind; sort; style" (OED). Prior to the
term's inception, the notion of genre in the study of media emerged in The Poetics, with Aristotle's
discussion of the mode or manner of imitation in poetry. Of this Aristotle writes, "the medium being
the same, and the objects [of imitation] the same, the poet may imitate by narration – in which case
he can either take another personality as Homer does, or speak in his own person, unchanged – or he
may present all his characters as living and moving before us" (Aristotle, 53). Here lies the
distinction between epic, lyric, and drama, a distinction based solely in convention, the usage of the
medium,...show more content...
It is a French word imported directly into the English language, derived from the Latin "genus" (the
stem is gener–), itself derived from the Greek "genos" (OED). Having evolved separately, the Greek
word and the Greek idea converged. The Greek root–word, like its Latin relative, refers to a clan or
race of people, or to offspring (Liddell & Scott Lexicon). This sense of familial interconnectedness
is essential to genre theory. Frye writes:
It is clear that criticism cannot be a systematic study unless there is a quality in literature which
enables it to be so. We have to adopt the hypothesis, then, that just as there is an order of nature
behind the natural sciences, so literature is not a piled aggregate of "works," but an order of words
(Frye, 17).
In conceiving of literature as a unified "order of words," Frye requires a system of genres which
will encompass the entire medium, expressing each the entire state of literature at a given moment,
all its bloodlines.
One might extend this idea of kinship to objects within any given medium, as in literature each
novel bears a relation to other novels, or across several media, as a Western film may bear relation to
a similar comic–book or radio drama. From this first approach, it makes more sense to think about
genres in a medium or the genres of a medium, than to think of genre as a medium. Based on the
questions raised in Aristotle's discussion, one might assemble a definition of genre more

What Is A Family? Essay
For most of us, the family is considered as a well–known and comfortable institution. The perfect
model of the 'ideal' family is still mostly considered to be consisted from two different sexes'
parents, and one or more children. Until quite recently, the sociology of the family was mostly
functionalist and just in the last few decades has been challenged from various directions. There are
many different definitions about what the family is. Different theoretical positions influence these
variations. For example, the functionalist sociologist George Peter Murdock defines the family as "a
social group characterized by common residence, economic co–operation and reproduction. It
includes adults of both sexes, at least two of whom maintain...show more content...
An early functionalist George Murdock argued that the family plays the main role in the society by
performing three main functions– пЃ¶Stabilisation of the sexual behaviour and reproduction.
пЃ¶Providing the basic economic requirements. пЃ¶Serving the function of socialisation of the next
generation. G. Murdock claimed that without family serving these three functions the society would
disappear. He considered these functions as universal, although he agreed that they could develop.
Talcott Parsons argues this statement, by saying, that there are two broad functions of the family–
primary socialisation and stabilisation of the adult personality 'throughout the emotional security,
including sexual expression, provided by marriage' (O'Donnell, 1997). In these days, when society
is changing, the functionalistic statements lose their strength. For example, the sex outside the
marriage, in these days of easily available contraception, is no more the taboo. Margaret Mead
argues Murdock's and Parsons imply that nuclear family is biologically necessary and natural. She
stated that the nuclear family is based on culture, not biology. Marxist views on the family Marxists
have very critical view of the family and society. They adopt a structural perspective, but put it in
the class nature of the society. The starting point for the most Marxist analyses of gender and the
family is Friedrich Engels' (1820–1895) The Origin of the

Perseverance Essay
What is perseverance? Perseverance is the ability to go on when things seem hopeless. It is also a
measure of success, or at least how much sacrifice one is willing to make in the name of success.
As students, it is impossible to achieve personal success without having a goal, or direction. The
goal and direction that often propels us to achieve is perseverance. Perseverance is the ability to
forge ahead despite setbacks that threaten to undermine all efforts to succeed.
We are high school students and that means that the sense of urgency to strive for and to achieve
personal success is now. With this urgency comes the expectation of having to persevere. This year
has not been as easy one for us as a school body. We have been...show more content...
There is no shame in falling; the shame is in accepting the the fall as defeat. Nelson Mandella once
said, "The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time you fall." That is
the essence of persevering––finding the will to get up even though you know you are being counted
out.
Each day is a challenge for some of us. Some of you struggle to get up each morning and make it
to school. But you find it within yourself to do because the hope of a better tomorrow compels
you to do so. It is not easy to explain to teachers or other students that there was no one to wake
you up and see that you were ready for school. The moment you leave your house and step on the
bus, you are one step closer to realizing your dream, to fulfilling your purpose. That is what
perseverance is. It is the finding the strength to do the impossible because you know that all
things are possible. It is understanding that your tomorrow has great possibilities because of the
steps you take today. I had a neighbor whose parents were divorced, but it seems like both parents
divorced her. Her mother had custody, but she was seldom around. My friend raised herself. She
gave a whole new meaning to the phrase "putting yourself through school", but she was in middle
school. However, she had a dream of something better and it was evident that it required
self–motivation and determination.

Essay on Team Player
Team Player A team player can be associated to any type of profession a person participates. The
dictionary defines team players as a number of people associated together in work or activity.
Team players are the type of people with a tremendous personality who contribute and motivate
themselves in many areas. They include the military, sports, work, and families. However, there are
a few things team players are not. Let us explore these aspects closer. A team player must have a
tremendous personality to be successful. A tremendous personality includes being friendly, tactful,
and diplomatic. A friendly personality is good to help keep the other players in harmony. It is
imperative to have a friendly personality so others will...show more content...
When a team player gives time to other members of the team, other team members hold him in
high praise. This will affect team members putting forth additional effort. Sometimes team players
will contribute money if it helps the team reach its goal. Overall, team players contribute their
ideas, time, and money to bring the morale of the whole team to the highest possible level. A
tremendous personality and contribution will lead to positive motivation on a team. Motivation
is the key to why team players try so viciously. A team player motivates the people around him/her
by always having a positive attitude. Being recognized as a leader, he/she must set forth a good
example. There are two ways a team player can show motivation. They are always striving for
mission accomplishment and constantly wanting the team to be successful. A team player strives
for mission accomplishment by showing no concern for his/her own individual needs. This will
make the team want to work together as one until a particular task is accomplished. As a result, the
team will be successful and show great pride and dignity in whatever missions that may arise in the
future. Therefore, a team that achieves mission accomplishment and team success will produce
many team players where everyone is a leader. Team players can be found in different types of
groups. They are in the military service, on sports teams, in the work place, and inside of families.
In the military, they are usually the leaders

Lifestyles Introduction
If you look up the word Lifestyle in the dictionary you will find the definition "a way of life or style
of living that reflects the attitudes and values of a person or group". However this definition does
not pertain much to marketing, or consumer purchasing habits. Another definition that would be of
more relevance and importance to marketers is "Lifestyle refers to a pattern of consumption, of how
he or she spends their time and money".
A lifestyle marketing perspective shows how people sort themselves into groups on the basis of
activities they enjoy, how they spend their free time, and how they spend their disposable income.
This gives marketers a chance for market segmentation strategies. Market...show more content...
Psychographics is basically the separation of customers into categories depending on different
choices in consumption activities, and product usage.
Marketers were always fascinated by the intangibles of consumer demand but it wasn't until the
1960s when social upheaval splintered the mass market beyond anything recognizable that
marketers invented a way to measure those intangibles. However despite being around for over 30
years or so Psychographics is still one of the least understood concepts in marketing research.
Many marketers consider demographics and psychographics as two separate things when in
actuality psychographics was developed to compliment demographics. The term first appeared in
Grey Advertising's publication "Grey Matter" in 1965. It was hailed as a way for researchers to
quantify the slippery field of consumer psychology.
A psycho graphic study combines consumers' measurable demographic characteristics with the more
abstract aspects of attitudes, opinions, and interests. Demographic, purchasing media, and psycho
graphic information is coded from surveys, thrown together and analyzed until some groups with
shared characteristics are can be distinguished from all other groups.

Essay about Defining Maturity
Maturity is commonly used word, but when asked what the word means many people simply
shrug their shoulders. Maturity isn't a word that has a clear definition. Being based primarily on
one's connotation, it doesn't mean the same thing to everyone. Personally I picked this word up
through context. However, upon doing a careful study of where this word originates and other's
connotation's, I feel I've achieved a relatively good understanding. Webster claims the word to mean
"based on slow careful consideration," but I feel there is much more to this word than that. How
can a word our society uses so much have such a loose definition. Teacher's and parents refer to their
children as mature or immature. But maybe one teacher's definition of...show more content...
However can one express maturity at all times? Maybe someone's "best possible outcome" differs
from another, who is then more mature? Again, maturity is driven from one's own connotation. This
is why there is such confusion in adolescents and their push to become mature.
In Joyce Carol Oates – Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been, there is a conflict with
maturity. Connie, the stories main character, feels she is extremely mature, so she does stuff in her
opinion mature people do. This leads to a stranger showing up on her doorstep asking her to come
outside and drive away with him. The story says, "She could see then that he wasn't a kid, he was
much older–thirty, maybe more. At this knowledge her heart began to pound faster." It concludes
with Connie leaving with the man and our imaginations predicting the rest. This story helps to
demonstrate the differences on the ideas of maturity.
One hundred years ago, at the turn of the century, maturity was viewed much differently then now.
Children were supposed to of been "seen not heard" and were considered mature by staying out of
affairs. Now–a–days, society's stressing that everyone's opinion matters. Back in 2003, fourteen
year old Brittany Bergquist and her brother twelve year old brother Robbie started a program
known as Cell phones for Soldiers. The aim of this company is to donate a total of twelve million
dollars in prepaid phone cards to the soldiers to call home via donations of old phones. We

Defining Success
Success has a unique meaning to everyone. To me, success means doing what I love, being happy,
and to make good money. One of the best examples of success to me is doing what I love. To me,
doing what I love would be being able to work as a video game developer. I would want to develop
games such as "Call of Duty. Working as a video game developer is a great example of doing what I
love. Another example of being successful would be to be happy. To me, being happy would be
having a family of my own and a job when I am older. I would want to have a wife, kids, and a job
that I would love to work at. Having all of those in the future would make me extremely happy. My
final example of success would be being able to make

DEFINITION ESSAY In its simplest terms, love is a four–letter word. Much like other words of
similar letter make up, when expressed it can evoke laughter, pleasure, pain, anger, and virtually any
wave of reaction. Love also can be confused with feelings of indigestion and gas. Houses have been

What is a Community? Essay example
A community is established when more than two people share the same values and through time this
personal connection evolves into a fellowship governed by rituals, traditions, and a particular form
of communication that when taken together makes a group of individuals whether living in a
specific geographical area or connected by ideals so distinct that their distinguishing marks allow
them to stand out from among the crowd. They do not just believe in something like an organization
but they need each other to survive and thrive. A good example is the Old OrderAmish Mennonite
community wherein the community serves as source of identity, strength and provides the reason
why they should sustain the community's way of life. It...show more content...
Communities are affected, and in a sense defined by, forces that affect community members and their
space. The forces can range from outside organizations such as the government and large
corporations ... These components of the community vary infinitely, and thus no two communities
are the same; even a given community is not the same over time (Cnaan & Milofsky, p. 1)
Based on this definition it is interesting to note that the Old Order Amish Mennoite community
satisfies the requirements of place, interests and communion. Aside from being a perfect example of
a community the Amish people exemplify what it means to be a part of a community that it is their
source of identity, strength, and sustainability. Each individual exists for the community but as a
whole the community nurtures each member and therefore it is unthinkable for an Amish man or
woman to leave their community behind. On the other hand many Americans feel they must "get
involved." In public life as well as in private, we can discern the habits that sustain individualism and
commitment as well as what makes them problematic. (Bellah, p.74) For the Amish Mennonite
community the purpose of the community is very clear. First, it provides them a sense of identity,
not only who they are as of the present but also helps them to trace their origins and the reason for
their

From this first approach, it makes more sense to think about genres in a medium or the genres of a medium, than to think of genre as a medium. Based on the questions raised in Aristotle's discussion, one might assemble a definition of genre more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. What Is A Family? Essay For most of us, the family is considered as a well–known and comfortable institution. The perfect model of the 'ideal' family is still mostly considered to be consisted from two different sexes' parents, and one or more children. Until quite recently, the sociology of the family was mostly functionalist and just in the last few decades has been challenged from various directions. There are many different definitions about what the family is. Different theoretical positions influence these variations. For example, the functionalist sociologist George Peter Murdock defines the family as "a social group characterized by common residence, economic co–operation and reproduction. It includes adults of both sexes, at least two of whom maintain...show more content... An early functionalist George Murdock argued that the family plays the main role in the society by performing three main functions– пЃ¶Stabilisation of the sexual behaviour and reproduction. пЃ¶Providing the basic economic requirements. пЃ¶Serving the function of socialisation of the next generation. G. Murdock claimed that without family serving these three functions the society would disappear. He considered these functions as universal, although he agreed that they could develop. Talcott Parsons argues this statement, by saying, that there are two broad functions of the family– primary socialisation and stabilisation of the adult personality 'throughout the emotional security, including sexual expression, provided by marriage' (O'Donnell, 1997). In these days, when society is changing, the functionalistic statements lose their strength. For example, the sex outside the marriage, in these days of easily available contraception, is no more the taboo. Margaret Mead argues Murdock's and Parsons imply that nuclear family is biologically necessary and natural. She stated that the nuclear family is based on culture, not biology. Marxist views on the family Marxists have very critical view of the family and society. They adopt a structural perspective, but put it in the class nature of the society. The starting point for the most Marxist analyses of gender and the family is Friedrich Engels' (1820–1895) The Origin of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Perseverance Essay What is perseverance? Perseverance is the ability to go on when things seem hopeless. It is also a measure of success, or at least how much sacrifice one is willing to make in the name of success. As students, it is impossible to achieve personal success without having a goal, or direction. The goal and direction that often propels us to achieve is perseverance. Perseverance is the ability to forge ahead despite setbacks that threaten to undermine all efforts to succeed. We are high school students and that means that the sense of urgency to strive for and to achieve personal success is now. With this urgency comes the expectation of having to persevere. Nelson Mandella once said, "The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time you fall." That is the essence of persevering––finding the will to get up even though you know you are being counted out. Each day is a challenge for some of us. Some of you struggle to get up each morning and make it to school. But you find it within yourself to do because the hope of a better tomorrow compels you to do so. It is not easy to explain to teachers or other students that there was no one to wake you up and see that you were ready for school. The moment you leave your house and step on the bus, you are one step closer to realizing your dream, to fulfilling your purpose. That is what perseverance is. It is the finding the strength to do the impossible because you know that all things are possible. It is understanding that your tomorrow has great possibilities because of the steps you take today. I had a neighbor whose parents were divorced, but it seems like both parents divorced her. Her mother had custody, but she was seldom around. My friend raised herself. She gave a whole new meaning to the phrase "putting yourself through school", but she was in middle school. However, she had a dream of something better and it was evident that it required self–motivation and determination. We have all been called upon Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Overall, team players contribute their ideas, time, and money to bring the morale of the whole team to the highest possible level. A tremendous personality and contribution will lead to positive motivation on a team. Motivation is the key to why team players try so viciously. A team player motivates the people around him/her by always having a positive attitude. Being recognized as a leader, he/she must set forth a good example. There are two ways a team player can show motivation. They are always striving for mission accomplishment and constantly wanting the team to be successful. A team player strives for mission accomplishment by showing no concern for his/her own individual needs. This will make the team want to work together as one until a particular task is accomplished. As a result, the team will be successful and show great pride and dignity in whatever missions that may arise in the future. Therefore, a team that achieves mission accomplishment and team success will produce many team players where everyone is a leader. Team players can be found in different types of groups. They are in the military service, on sports teams, in the work place, and inside of families. In the military, they are usually the leaders Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Lifestyles Essay examples Lifestyles Introduction If you look up the word Lifestyle in the dictionary you will find the definition "a way of life or style of living that reflects the attitudes and values of a person or group". However this definition does not pertain much to marketing, or consumer purchasing habits. Another definition that would be of more relevance and importance to marketers is "Lifestyle refers to a pattern of consumption, of how he or she spends their time and money". A lifestyle marketing perspective shows how people sort themselves into groups on the basis of activities they enjoy, how they spend their free time, and how they spend their disposable income. This gives marketers a chance for market segmentation strategies. Market...show more content... Psychographics is basically the separation of customers into categories depending on different choices in consumption activities, and product usage. Marketers were always fascinated by the intangibles of consumer demand but it wasn't until the 1960s when social upheaval splintered the mass market beyond anything recognizable that marketers invented a way to measure those intangibles. However despite being around for over 30 years or so Psychographics is still one of the least understood concepts in marketing research. Many marketers consider demographics and psychographics as two separate things when in actuality psychographics was developed to compliment demographics. The term first appeared in Grey Advertising's publication "Grey Matter" in 1965. It was hailed as a way for researchers to quantify the slippery field of consumer psychology. A psycho graphic study combines consumers' measurable demographic characteristics with the more abstract aspects of attitudes, opinions, and interests. Demographic, purchasing media, and psycho graphic information is coded from surveys, thrown together and analyzed until some groups with shared characteristics are can be distinguished from all other groups. • 7. Essay about Defining Maturity Maturity is commonly used word, but when asked what the word means many people simply shrug their shoulders. Maturity isn't a word that has a clear definition. Being based primarily on one's connotation, it doesn't mean the same thing to everyone. Personally I picked this word up through context. However, upon doing a careful study of where this word originates and other's connotation's, I feel I've achieved a relatively good understanding. Webster claims the word to mean "based on slow careful consideration," but I feel there is much more to this word than that. How can a word our society uses so much have such a loose definition. Teacher's and parents refer to their children as mature or immature. But maybe one teacher's definition of...show more content... However can one express maturity at all times? Maybe someone's "best possible outcome" differs from another, who is then more mature? Again, maturity is driven from one's own connotation. This is why there is such confusion in adolescents and their push to become mature. In Joyce Carol Oates – Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been, there is a conflict with maturity. Connie, the stories main character, feels she is extremely mature, so she does stuff in her opinion mature people do. This leads to a stranger showing up on her doorstep asking her to come outside and drive away with him. The story says, "She could see then that he wasn't a kid, he was much older–thirty, maybe more. At this knowledge her heart began to pound faster." It concludes with Connie leaving with the man and our imaginations predicting the rest. This story helps to demonstrate the differences on the ideas of maturity. One hundred years ago, at the turn of the century, maturity was viewed much differently then now. Children were supposed to of been "seen not heard" and were considered mature by staying out of affairs. Now–a–days, society's stressing that everyone's opinion matters. Back in 2003, fourteen year old Brittany Bergquist and her brother twelve year old brother Robbie started a program known as Cell phones for Soldiers. • 10. What is a Community? Essay example A community is established when more than two people share the same values and through time this personal connection evolves into a fellowship governed by rituals, traditions, and a particular form of communication that when taken together makes a group of individuals whether living in a specific geographical area or connected by ideals so distinct that their distinguishing marks allow them to stand out from among the crowd. They do not just believe in something like an organization but they need each other to survive and thrive. The forces can range from outside organizations such as the government and large corporations ... These components of the community vary infinitely, and thus no two communities are the same; even a given community is not the same over time (Cnaan & Milofsky, p. 1) Based on this definition it is interesting to note that the Old Order Amish Mennoite community satisfies the requirements of place, interests and communion. Aside from being a perfect example of a community the Amish people exemplify what it means to be a part of a community that it is their source of identity, strength, and sustainability. Each individual exists for the community but as a whole the community nurtures each member and therefore it is unthinkable for an Amish man or woman to leave their community behind. On the other hand many Americans feel they must "get involved." In public life as well as in private, we can discern the habits that sustain individualism and commitment as well as what makes them problematic. (Bellah, p.74) For the Amish Mennonite community the purpose of the community is very clear.
