In this session, we will explore and debunk misconceptions, myths, and half-truths surrounding the Enterprise Data Management Cloud (EDM) product. We will discuss how EDM handles the mastering of enterprise data assets, data governance, alignment of master data across applications, and integration capabilities with cloud and on-premises deployments. We will also touch on EDM vs. data relationship management (DRM). Is EDM really “DRM in the Cloud”? Can EDM do everything DRM can do, and is it really "ready for prime time”? What does EDM do best, and what are surprising things EDM can do I may not realize? Come to this session to find out!

Our Alithya Sessions
8. • Manages Master Data (not financial/transactional data)
• Hierarchies, dimensions, mappings
• Application-centric framework
• EDM is based on applications and dimensions
• Purpose-Built
• EDM is purpose-built for deployment to specific target application types
• Adapters
• EDM comes with 6 adapters (Standard Planning, Enterprise Planning, Financial Consolidation
and Close, Financial Cloud GL, Oracle EBS, Custom/Universal)
• Two pods
• Production and Test environments
• Each environment can contain multiple EDM applications
• Licensing based on unique records
• Unique nodes/members across all EDM applications
ENTERPRISE DATA MANAGEMENT OVERVIEW
9. • System of Reference
• Single “Source of Truth” for enterprise master data
• Direct integration to EPM Cloud applications
• Master Data Integrity
• Automatic enforcement of master data quality - referential integrity, validations, hierarchy comparisons
• Modern User Interface
• Default views and maintenance views optimized for change management
• Built-in visualization of changes, drag-n-drop operations, side-by-side hierarchy comparison
• Audit Trail
• All master data changes governed by a request mechanism
• Always-on granular audit trail of every change performed in EDM
• Subscriptions
• Provides mastering of shared hierarchy updates across EDM applications
• Data Governance
• Approval Policies available out of the box (no additional licensing fee)
ENTERPRISE DATA MANAGEMENT FEATURES
12. #1: I heard EDM is just “DRM in the Cloud”
• EDM is a completely new product, built with a new architecture and philosophy
• It is DRM “re-imagined” – it is not DRM ported to the cloud
• EDM is the cloud successor to DRM but goes about it in a different way
• There are similar concepts with DRM:
• Add / Insert
• Remove / Delete
• Hierarchy and Property Pane UI
• Node Types
• But there are many more differences in data model and philosophy
Answer: FALSE
13. #2: I heard EDM is just “EPMA in the Cloud”
• EDM utilizes similar concepts for cloud deployments as EPMA did for on-premise
deployments
• Shared and Application Specific Libraries
• Purpose-built deployments for specific target applications
• However, EDM goes beyond that…
• Foundational, master data hub
• Collaboration
• Approval Workflows
• Subscriptions
• Custom Validations
• Derived Properties
Answer: KIND OF
14. #3: I heard EDM is the same as DM (Data Management)
• Enterprise Data Management and (Cloud) Data Management are two separate
products
• EDM to DRM is like DM to FDMEE
• EDM
• Master Data (Financial, Analytical, Operational)
• Reference Data
• Hierarchies, alternate rollups, CoA structures
• Cloud Data Management
• Financial Data
• Mappings
• Data Integration / Loads
Answer: FALSE
15. #4: I heard EDM is not ready for “prime time”
• Real World EDM Implementations We Have Done
• Implementations with multiple cloud targets – both packaged adapter (PBCS, EPBCS,
FCCS) and custom adapter (PCMCS)
• Mappings (for cost allocation rules)
• On Premise integration (HFM)
• ERP integration (SAP, EBS)
• Derived Properties and Custom Validations
• Approval Workflows (including complex workflows at the Node Type/Hier Set levels)
• Automation of imports, exports, requests (EPM Automate, RESTful API, PowerShell,
Python, FDMEE)
Answer: FALSE
20. SUMMARY
• EDM is most definitely ready for “prime time”
• It has come a long way in a short time
• Heavy R&D investment from Oracle; major functionality introduced typically 1x/quarter
• EDM matches up well to DRM
• Different products/architecture/philosophy but feature set aligns nicely
• Product gaps being actively addressed
• New Features Since Jan 2018 Release:
• 3 additional packaged adapters (FCCS, Financial Cloud GL, Oracle EBS)
• Approval workflows
• Custom validations
• Derived properties
• Property inheritance
• Collaboration capabilities
• Enhanced search capabilities
• Full audit trail/transaction history reporting
• Enhanced comparison functionality
• Enhanced change detection (changed data capture) functionality
• Enhanced Subscription functionality for sharing of master data
