The document discusses the results of a survey on employment challenges faced by immigrants in Canada. According to the survey of 30 immigrants, 25 found it difficult to find a job and most attributed this to language barriers. The document argues that many skilled immigrants are unable to find work in their field and instead work minimum wage jobs or as taxi drivers, despite having higher education or professional experience from their home countries. It calls on the MP to help change policies to better recognize immigrants' credentials and allow them to apply their skills.

Dear mp
1. Dear MP,
We are concerned about the inequities immigrants are facing today in regards to finding
employment. After several interviews, discussions, and surveys, we have come to the conclusion
that there needs to be change and with your influence we hope to make it possible. Our most recent
survey was conducted on immigrants from different countries in Canada. This survey was
taken in different locations in our school, in ESL school for adults and in our community
with a diverse population including men and women.
According to our survey only two people who were newcomers to Canada did not
find it hard to seek employment, and only two of them did not find that English was a
barrier for when they were looking for a job. Thus, 25 of the other subjects found it hard to
find a job and it is evident that this is alarming and surprising as this is the Canada, the land
of opportunity.
We are giving newcomers to Canada false hope as we select only the ones we deem to be fit
to prosper in our country, and once they arrive some are left with the unsettling reality that
they must begin from the minimum all over again. This poses a great strain to the welfare
of families as they will be subject to living in poor conditions, some will not be able to
afford childcare, and most have no choice but to settle for minimum wage jobs even if they
are over qualified. We have the one of the highest educated Taxi drivers, and those who are
working at places such as Tim Horton’s surpass their requirements as some were great
professionals back home with a high education. Imagine the effects this has on the self-
esteem of an individual?
In addition, an astonishing 95 percent of the people who took the interview said that they
do not have a job related to their previous skill. Only 9 people were able to receive help
from community centers to find jobs. Thankfully a greater number have admitted to
receiving assistance with their resume write up, but logically, without proper references or
accreditation of their skills the likelihood of them receiving employment is very slim.
In Summation,We believe that the most important step to changing this epidemic is by
recognizing and honoring the great credentials that some of our newcomers have and
allowing them to apply it to their everyday lives, and have a profession in the area of their
expertise.
We look forward to your response,
