Lance Armstrong was an American professional cyclist born in 1971 who was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1996 at age 25. The cancer had spread to his lungs, abdomen, and brain. He underwent chemotherapy and surgery to remove his cancerous testicle and brain tumors. Although he was given less than a 40% chance of survival, Armstrong overcame cancer through his treatment. He later returned to professional cycling competition in 1998.
