Situation of facts: Management of conflict situations in the labor area
Liliam La Veraniega works as an administrative assistant for an advertising company. During the
month of June, he decided to take a well-deserved vacation. When Liliam La Veraniega returns
from her vacation, Pedro, a co-worker, asks her how her vacation went. Liliam tells Pedro and
other co-workers who were there at the time about the whole process she went through to get a
new tattoo. Julito El Picaflor, who is a co-worker of Pedro's, asks Liliam La Veraniega where on
her body she got the tattoo. Liliam winks at Julito El Picaflor and pats his chest without
indicating where the tattoo had been done and leaves. The next day, when Liliam the Summery
gives some work documents to Julito El Picaflor, Julito asks him when he is going to let him see
the tattoo he did. Liliam La Veraniega smiles and continues walking. In the following days,
Julito El Picaflor continues to insist to Liliam the Summery about when she was going to let him
see the tattoo and Liliam's response is always to smile and walk away. A week after this, Julito
El Picaflor is told that he must go through the boss's office. When Julito goes to the boss's office,
the boss lets him know that Liliam filed charges against him for continuing with the curiosity and
insistence of wanting to see the area where Liliam had the tattoo.
After reading the above factual situation and the resources required of this unit, answer the
following questions:
1. Were the rights of Liliam La Veraniega or those of Julito El Picaflor violated? Which of the
two is right and which is wrong?
2. Could this situation have been handled differently? Explain your answer.
3. Putting yourself in the place of Julito El Picaflor, what would you have done differently?
Explain your answer.
4. Develop at least five (5) strategies for handling and negotiating conflict situations like this.
You should explain how you would implement them in these types of situations or similar
situations.
5. Develop at least five (5) strategies to prevent situations or behaviors like this in the workplace.
You should explain how you would implement them in these types of situations or similar
situations.
6. What other implications or legal repercussions could this type of conduct have in the
workplace and what would be the impact for both the company and Julito El Picaflor on a
personal level?
