Heart Disease Prevention Strategies:
Although heart disease is a leading cause of death, it is preventable. While some risk factors, such
as family history, gender, or age, cannot be changed, there are numerous strategies
1. You Must Not Smoke or Use Tobacco.
• One of the best things you
can do to prevent yourself
from heart disease is to quit
smoking or use smokeless
tobacco.
2. Get moving: Aim for 30 to 60 Minutes of Movement
Every Day.
• To reduce the risk of heart
disease add physical activities
to your daily routine. Physical
activity aids with weight
management.
3. Consume a Heart-Healthy Diet
• A nutritious diet can help
protect the heart, lower blood
pressure and cholesterol
levels, and lower the risk of
type 2 diabetes.
4. Get Most of Your Sleep.
• People who do not get
enough sleep are more likely
to develop obesity, high blood
pressure, heart disease,
diabetes, and depression.
5. Stress Management
• Some people react to stress in
unhealthy ways, such as
overeating, drinking to excess,
or smoking.
6. Schedule Frequent Health Screenings:
• High blood pressure and
cholesterol levels can harm the
heart and blood vessels. You
won’t know if you have some
diseases unless you are
tested.
