In the past few decades, stem cells have been employed to heal and cure many health disorders and incurable diseases. To add to their various and diverse range of uses, they are now been utilized as an aesthetic medicine in day to day life. Stem cells have a magnitude of purposes. Editor's Notes
Hello Friends. Warm greetings from Advancells. Untill now in different webinar series organised by advancells we have seen the potential of stem cells to cure diseases which otherwise have no treatment in our traditional medicine. Todays webinar we will explored the potential of stem cells in regenerative medicine. So today we will try to shed some light on antiaging and application of stem cells in antiaging. The title of my talk is ….
We all grow old and everyone has definite lifespan on this planet earth. So if I ask you that If you have to chose right now… How long would you choose to live? 50 years, 70 years, 90 years or even longer? And do you think you will change your mind once you reach that age?
If we see the average age expectancy…. from very early century, life span of human being was very less. The average age at people die in early 19th century was 40 years. As we learn how to use the resources around us to treat various diseases that affect our living our life expectancy got better and better. Today humans are living longer and healthier life like never before. By the end of year 2080 we may leave over 100 years.
Every morning you rise up from bed and 1st thing you do is observe yourself before mirror. Today, the morning was fine ….but your reflection expressed something different. Few wrinkles, andfine lines … few strands of grey hair that makes you wonder AM I AGING?
Our age is just a number. Our body keeps changing everyday. There are Trillions of cells in our body which are constantly changing. Some cells die at the same time new cells takes their place. This accounts to our bodies growth. Hence although we are growing by age most of the organs and tissues in our body keeps renewing it self… this gives us a good news….. we can stop aging for sure.
Hairs become thin, colour changes to grey
Retina become thinner impaired sharpness, iris get stiffened hence pupil become less responsive
Our skin begins to develop wrinkles and dark spots. Ability of skin to produce oil reduces as a result skin becomes dry and lustreless..
Eardrums thicken making hearing more difficult
Not visible but changes in bone as we age are evident. Friction between joints increases. Bone becomes porous due to loss of mineral reservoirs.
Heart vessels lose their elasticity and fat deposition on artery wall makes them smaller and narrower. Heart works harder than usual to pump blood, results are hypertension, cardiac arrest, arteriosclerosis and other serious disorders.
We are born and become young then older and then we die. This is been a natural order for all of human history.
And getting old is a good thing. We celebrate the idea of living long enough to experience the old age we even call them a golden years. But the reality is everybody wants to become old but no body wants to be old.
There is no such things like dying of old age. We will die when one of our important body part or organ breaks
The older we get more damage and fragile we become until one or multiple disease take over. Hence to fight with aging we have to start early and reverse or stop the damage occur in our body. If we become too old it is too late. We all the know the story of Tithonus and goddess Eos.
A 90 year old who stopped aging will die anyways after few years as too much damage had done to his internal machineries. There are already too many surfaces for disease to attack. Instead concept of life extension promises to ends disease and with them the end of the fixed maximal age.
Diminished functional capacity of hematopoietic stem cells during aging. A young stem cell population is characterized by few apoptotic cells, a mix of quiescent and active cells, the latter with robust self-renewal and differentiation capacity. Young stem cells show balanced differentiation into lymphoid and myeloid lineages (a). It is hypothesized that an aged stem cell population has a higher rate of apoptosis due to acquired cellular damage. There are fewer quiescent cells in the stem cell reserve and the active stem cells have restricted lineage potential (b). When an old stem cell population comes under hematopoietic stress, it is proposed that the rate of apoptosis increases as quiescent cells unsuccessfully make the activation step, further depleting the quiescent reserves. Active stem cells not only are hampered by lineage restrictions, but the number of differentiated progeny each produces is diminished, leading to a slow and blunted recovery (c).
What makes stem cells so unique is that they have the ability to repair and heal more quickly. Since stem cells have special regenerative properties, their ability to help with a variety of conditions and injuries is vast and promising.
Stem cell use in in skin rejuvenation is a much more natural approach to anti-ageing - both for the fact you're using your body's own material and for the fact the results develop over time. Common areas where it is used includes; sun-damaged and prematurely aged skin on cheeks and mid-face, jaw line, sagging skin on the neck, back of the hands.
Breast augmentation is also a popular cosmetic procedure today. There are various implants available in the market to achieve the desirable results. However the procedure involving transferring fat from any part of the body to the breasts, primarily to enhance their size and shape. Liposuction can still be utilized as the method for extracting the fat, and the extracted fat is transferred to the breasts. Before the fat is injected into the breasts, stem cells may be added. Potential advantages of adding stem cells to this procedure include:
a reduced healing time
rejuvenation of overlying skin
an increased survival rate of the fat cells (up to 20%)
Butt lift shares the same methodology as breast augmentation. Fat is extracted and then transferred to the buttocks. Adding stem cells into the procedure provides the same advantages as with breast augmentation. Commonly, in butt lifts, 70% of fat cells survive in the standard procedure. Adding stem cells to the procedure may boost the survival rate of the fat cells by an additional 20%, thereby improving the final results and satisfaction of the patient.
Stem cells taken from your own fat tissue, when injected into the scalp, can reverse the shrinking of hair follicles. In fact, research has discovered that stem cells can now be used within the hair follicles to promote new hair growth in those dealing with thinning hair or balding due to a variety of different factors.
Stem cell + PRP therapy is most effective for those in the early stages of hair loss or for patients who are not candidates for surgery. The treatment is also ideal for women who prefer to avoid hair surgery or do not have enough quality donor hair for a transplant.
As we age lost of skin elasticity due to collagen fiber loss creates a Cellulite skin. Most women have it on their thighs, bottoms, or bellies. It's normal, but if yours bothers you, there are ways to make it less noticeable.
Cellulite can be difficult to treat, but luckily, there are a few things you can do to help get the firm, toned appearance you desire. Try a combination of medically-supported methods, at-home techniques, and diet and exercise to reduce the dimpling and bumpiness associated with cellulite.
Not invasive home remedies like quitting unhealthy habits like smoking and drinking, encouraging healthy diet, brisk exercise, helps loosing some pounds and in turns tone muscles this helps in reduction of cellulite. However, with these remedies results are slow.
Stem cells injection in affected area helps regaining the lost collagen fibres and give more elasticity to the surrounding tissue and the cellulite area become normal again.
Cosmetics is a substance that is “meant to decorate or improve the appearance of the human body without affecting the body’s structure or function.” The word ‘cosmetic’ is derived from the Greek word ‘kosmetikē tekhnē’, which means the practice of beautifying the human body using dress and ornaments. In the ancient times, the humans used natural pigments found in plants and fruits to
beautify themselves. Ever since, cosmetics have gone through several makeovers and evolved through centuries.
We are aware of the fact that stem cells are used to cure many critical diseases. These stem cells when growing in lab conditions secrets many growth factors, cytokines required for wound healing. These secretions from stem cells are been used to prepare many cosmetics to enhance the skin and hair care.
