2. Virtualization
A technique for hiding the physical characteristics of computing resources
from the way in which other systems, applications, or end users interact with
those resources.
It basically allows one computer to do the job of multiple computers by
sharing the resource of a single hardware across multiple environments.

6. Virtualization Benefits
Improvement of overall hardware resource utilization
More efficient use of existing servers
Improvement of Hardware and Software maintenance on
secondary systems
Easy backups of existing systems
Faster deployment of new logical desktops/server
Safer/faster migration of applications/infrastructure
Ability to isolate applications in separate virtual
environments
6
7. Desktop Virtualization Architecture
Desktop virtualization separates a desktop environment from a physical machine
using a client–server model of computing. The model stores the resulting
"virtualized" desktop on a remote central server thus, when users work from their
remote desktop client, all of the programs, applications, processes, and data used
are kept and run centrally.
7
8. Why Desktop Virtualization
Desktops are out of control, users load and run whatever they like on “their”
workstations
Hard to support, no standard software
Hard to manage configuration, no telling what’s installed
Risk of data loss, company data not safe
Businesses need to “prove” compliance with IT security policies
Many users share one machine
A user can “consume” with RAM or CPU
Different users may need different apps that conflict with each other
Similar to shared services but:
Each user gets “their own” virtual machine and can be quickly instantiated
Desktop controller server manages user connections, VM power states, load balancing
Users CAN share a machine if appropriate
Relatively simple to deploy
9. Technology
Industry standard carrier grade solution for data center
virtualization
Openness of the architecture & interfaces
Web based intuitive Management with relatively less training
time
Modular and Highly secure with integrated modules
Supports multiple OS and hardware platforms
Highly Interoperable by leveraging existing IT assets
Adaptability to manage any hardware and software
combination, and to integrate with any product and service in
the cloud and virtualization ecosystem
Support for Hybrid and Public Cloud

13. Key Benefits
Maximize IT Efficiency: Achieve high consolidation ratios and improve hardware
utilization from 5 percent to 15 percent to 80 percent or more—without sacrificing
performance.
Reduce Costs: Reduce capital expenditures by up to 70 percent and operational
expenditures by up to 30 percent to achieve 20–30 percent lower IT infrastructure
costs for each application.
Increase Availability and Control: Automate the enforcement of service-level
agreements to ensure availability, scalability and performance of enterprise
applications.
Empower Your IT Department with Choice: Deliver applications and business
services on-demand with the freedom to choose your hardware, application
architecture, operating system, and private or public cloud infrastructure.
Rapid provisioning improves time to Go Live
Automation reduces staffing costs
Physical servers made more interchangeable
Portability improves availability, recovery, and flexibility
13
14. Value Proposition
On Demand Compute: Virtualize x86 server resources and aggregate them into
logical pools that can be precisely allocated to multiple workloads
On Demand Storage: Storage services abstract away from the complexity of back-
end storage systems
Network: Virtual networking provides network services optimized for the virtual
environment, along with simplified administration and management
Availability: Increase availability of all aspects of your infrastructure, including
applications, storage resources, infrastructure and management
Security: Offers robust and secure virtualization platform available
Automation: Automation provides accurate, consistent and repeatable solutions
that save IT administrators time and effort
