2. Abstract
The purpose of the present paper is the recording of the existing situation in the
harbour – marine system of Eastern Macedonia - Thrace region and the forecasted
investments in the frames of the 4th Community Support Framework 2007-2013.
An extensive analysis in the significance of Public – Private investments and their
extend within the examined harbour system, takes part in the First Chapter. It is
followed by a presentation of modern tendencies in a global scale at the sector of
marine transports and the participation of Greece in these.
The second chapter, has to do with the legislative and lawful frame that characterizes
the transportation sector of Greece. The European Community legislation, as well as
the National legislation are both taken into account.
The third chapter, examines the existing situation in the harbour system of
Alexandroupolis Port, the projects that took place during the last decade and the
investments, which are about to take place at the 4th Community Support Framework.
In order to determine the profitability of the project, the Internal Rate of Return, is
calculated for each port operational sector.
The fourth chapter, analyzes the present situation in the harbour system of Kavala’s
Port and the fore coming investments at the 4th Community Support Framework.
At the appendix tit is presented a photographic recording of the chronological
sequence of the construction process, in both Alexandroupoli and Kavala.
