Throughout the past two summers I have been working with the City of Toronto’s Adapted and
Integrated division as a support staff member. This job requires me to lead activities, plan programing, ensure
that consistent behaviour management techniques are followed, and provide support to participants at a camp
for children and adults with developmental disabilities, as well as one on one support to individuals helping
them integrate into a mainstream camp .
During my employment at Target Canada my position in the price accuracy department required me to
complete daily price changes, create labels and signs, set sales, mark clearance, and ensure that all products
were priced and ringing up correctly at the registers. I worked not only as a price accuracy team member, but
was also cross-trained in other areas of the store. I assisted with unloading the trucks and stocking shelves,
setting displays, providing assistance to customers throughout the store, and I also worked cashier shifts whilst
the store underwent liquidation.
In my previous employment position at Transcom (inbound call center) I learned a great deal about
customer service and providing friendly support. Not only did I help customers with their billing and repair
needs, I also needed to have a great deal of patience and the ability to deal with sometimes very irate people.
The skills I developed included being able to address a customer’s feelings in regards to the problem they are
having, the ability to professional and separate personal feelings from work, especially when needing to be
cheerful and friendly after a particularly stressful or upsetting call.
Apart from these experiences I was also a very active member of my high schools music department and
music executive. I spent two years on the music executive, the first as Senior Band representative, and the
second as Treasurer. As a member of the music executive I was responsible for helping to plan events such as
concerts and coffee houses, as well as various fundraisers for the music department. On my Wednesday nights,
I volunteered my time to be an Enrichment band leader. Which consisted of working one on one with students,
or small groups of students in grade seven and eight helping to teach them how to read music, play an
instrument and perform in a band setting, as well as assisting our director in whatever other tasks she required.
Additionally I spent a week at the Ontario Educational Leadership center in 2010 and completed the
Secondary Music Leadership course. This course helped to develop leadership skills as well as communication
and teamwork, throughout different workshops and activities. I believe these skills will be a valuable asset.
Thank you for your time, and I hope to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Zoë Brock
