ASCWU-SG Report BOT May 2015
Agenda

Governor Inslee and Senator Murray Visits
•  Governor Inslee and Senator Patty Murray met with Students to discuss
funding for Higher Education and College Affordability.
•  Governor Inslee’s visit was hosted in the Samuelson Union Building.
•  The Governor’s visit also gave us the opportunity to thank him for putting
the Samuelson STEM funding request in this year’s budget.
Civics Week
•  The CLCE and VP of Legislative Affairs, Cassie DuBore
organized Civics week on May 4-7th. Keynote speakers include
State Representatives Hans Zeiger and Melanie Stambaugh.
•  The events of civics week occur in the same week as the
Student Government elections and includes a community
organization Fair, photo booths, and a showcase display.
Passport Day
• The first Kittitas County/CWU Passport Day was
hosted on April 27th in SURC 202 in coordination
with the Kittitas County Clerk Val Barschaw.
• Booths were set up for passport application
processing and payment. Passport photos were
offered for $10.
• Outreach was done in the community by the
County Clerk to the Daily Record and businesses
by distributing posters.
• This will likely become an annual event under
Student Government as a part of our outreach to
the community.
Central Class Ring
•  Class Rings Available for purchase. Students who purchased the ring before
20 April are eligible for class ring ceremony on June 4.
•  Ceremony schedule is currently being finalized, in collaboration with Bob Ford
from Alumni Relations and Steven Wenger from The Wildcat Shop.
•  A proposed ‘President’s Walk’ will take place in the class ring ceremony with
the President of the University, President of the Alumni Association, and
President of the ASCWU Student Government leading from the ceremony
events at the President’s house to the Wildcat Statue.
Student Government Elections
•  The Single-Sign-On ballot system is in place for ASCWU Student Government
primary and general elections. It was first used on April 20-22 for primary elections
with a turnout of 626 voters.
•  Elections coordinator Chris McElroy and the Election Commission worked to
improve turnout by encouraging individual candidates create their own campaign
material, such as posters and outdoor stake signs.
•  9 official candidates and 2 write-in candidates are running for the 2015 General
Election that occurs May 4-7th.
•  The Student Arts Fund was petitioned by 10% of the student population, and was
placed on the ballot. A Student Government educational campaign was created to
ensure that students were aware of the initiative on the ballot.
•  Revised constitution was placed on the ballot, correcting grammatical and formatting
errors, and fixing term of office to start after commencement speech is done by the
ASCWU President.

Post-Election
•  Transition team consists of President Yosef Gamble, EVP
Nick Shuey, and VP of Legislative Affairs Cassie DuBore
to train the new government on running efficient meetings
and items to work on for next year.
•  The new Student Government is working with Dr. Keith
Champagne and Professor Chase Thiel on Leadership
workshops for the new officers to take part in for the
summer.
•  In previous years, one week was dedicated to training and
team development.
Other Mentions
•  Wildcat statue is being installed by the beginning of June. VP of
Student Life and Facilities Rob Lane is spearheading the project.
•  Yosef Gamble involved in input about prototype of printing stations that
are due for installation in the residence hall.
•  Food drive outside of Fred Meyer, Super 1 Foods, Grocery Outlet, and
Safeway on the last week of May.
