2. Message from Pam King
President/CEO
Since the inception of BBB 101 years ago and of our local
BBB in 1983, our goal has always been to help people
find and recommend businesses, brands and
charities they trust.
Over the years, and especially now with
more than 30 million businesses
operating in the United States and Canada, many
people are overwhelmed with choices and often
unsure about where to find reliable, unbiased
information.
BBB is that source. We help people identify
reliable businesses by holding them to
a stringent set of ethical standards. We
also provide timely consumer tips and
information, offer help with complaint
resolution between businesses and
consumers, and review local charities to help
donors make smart choices.
As a result, thousands of consumers and
businesses are building solid relationships
based on trust.
To maximize our efforts, later this year the BBB
Foundation will become the BBB Institute for
Marketplace Trust and home to the BBB Center for
Character Ethics, BBB Center for Fraud Prevention and
BBB Center for Nonprofit Excellence.
We look forward to serving Northern Colorado and
Wyoming this year and in years to come.
Yours in building trust,
Pam King, President/CEO

3. Message from Ty Notestine
Chair, BBB Board of Directors
Owner/Partner, Thomas and Tyler LLC
It has been an honor to serve as chair of the BBB Board of
Directors and I look forward to another great year for our hardworking board and for Better Business Bureau.
The importance of the organization is clear anytime
we pick up a newspaper, turn on the evening news or surf
any number of news websites and see stories about people,
businesses and organizations doing things the wrong way. The
list of ethics violators - from Lance Armstrong to Bernie Madoff
– is, unfortunately, not short.
That business ethics is now taught in our universities and
discussed in our board rooms is a step in the right direction
– and the right thing to do. If you want to ensure that your
business – big or small or even sole proprietor – can be counted among ethical
business, you need to have the following components in place. These happen to be
the same standards against which businesses are measured for BBB Accreditation
and which they agree to uphold.

Businesses throughout Northern Colorado and Wyoming are doing just this – and they’re enjoying
great business as a result. Doing the right thing and doing it well is good for business.
Regards,
Ty Notestine, Board Chair

Advertising Review
BBB regularly monitors local advertising to foster truth and transparency in advertising
claims. The self-regulatory review process seeks advertiser compliance in order
to increase public trust in the credibility of advertising and to maintain a level
playing field for settling disputes among competing advertisers.
Logo Violation Cases
To protect BBB’s 100-year-old brand, challenges are also made against
companies misusing the BBB Accredited Business seal, an internationally
recognized symbol of trust.

10. “What I learned
from the Torch Award Project?”
BBB TORCH AWARDS FOR ETHICS:
Honored seven businesses as winners of the
BBB Torch Awards for Ethics at the 14th-annual
ceremony.
Businesses nominated for the BBB Torch
Awards for Ethics work with students from
the colleges of business at Colorado State
University, University of Northern Colorado
and the University of Wyoming. Students
prepare award entries on behalf of each
nominee, evaluating the ways in which the
business promotes the six TRUST! principles of
EthicalEnterprising. These principles are based
on the premise that an organization’s leaders
are the caretakers of the culture.
Students are asked about the program’s
impact on them individually; the charted
results are above with a majority of students
acknowledging leadership responsibility for
building a culture and being a caretaker of
TRUST! within an organization; and other
students appreciating the opportunity for realworld application of ethics provided by the
Torch Awards project.
BBB/ROTARY ETHICS SCHOLARSHIP:
A $5,000 scholarship was awarded to a collegebound high school student who submitted an
essay reflecting upon how the Rotary 4-Way
Test is demonstrated in his/her life.
