I. The Context:
Indian women themselves constitute a great “collective resource”, given the fact that they hail from a wide
spectrum perhaps like nowhere else in the world! The permutations and combinations created by such a huge,
eclectic mix of our populace and their varying educational, cultural, regional, socio-economic and other
backgrounds is astounding! Hence, this fact does merit stakeholders’ attention - that this huge potential resource
could be tapped well to our advantage, to begin with. However, this strategy would be effective only when there
is ample encouragement, hand holding and trigger for our women to come forward through their own ‘self-
initiatives’, synergize among themselves and form ‘symbiotic relationships’ with corresponding knowledge of its
effectiveness, to be able to produce our envisioned results.
Such symbiotic functioning with the ‘spirit of synergies’ also produces other multifold positive outcomes like
empathy, caring and sharing, greater understanding of multiple view-points and an ‘Appreciative’ approach to
life and living, besides just physically teaming up towards achievement of specific time-bound targets as seen in
various groups, associations, places of work, families and so on.
With increasingly divisive forces in operation particularly in today’s context, it is high time a mindset is created
wherein it is deemed every individual’s responsibility towards oneself and the larger community and societies in
which they live, to ensure all that it takes to preserve the ‘individual’ well-being, family well-being as a natural but
conscientiously created state of ‘collective well-being’ of which each and every single woman has stakes!
Developing an appreciative eye for strengths, values, and assets creates the beacon, the spot of light, that glows
with possibility and hope. &
THE SPOTLIGHT THEREFORE, IS ON
‘APPRECIATIVE’ SYNERGES & SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIPS!
II. Our Managing Trustee Shares:
Dear friends,
It gives me immense pleasure unfolding ‘Appreciative Synergies’ covering all that had transpired during the financial
year ‘2015-16 marking our third year of existence. While on our onward journey we wish to take this opportunity to
thank Ms. Ria Ghoshal, our Co-Trustees for having been with us through our first couple of years. She had chosen to
resign with effect from 1st
April 2015 from her position on our Board, due to the fact that her professional sphere of
activities increasingly demanded her presence out of India.
This year, our focus was pinned on two milestones – 1) Deciphering ways and means of creating synergies at yet another
plane – that of stakeholders, both individual and institutional. In keeping with our underpinning philosophy, that of
Appreciative Inquiry, needless to say, our quest in this direction has also been that of an ‘Appreciative’ search for
stakeholders having a positive, holistic and appreciative approach, as far as possible; and 2) A vision planning exercise
trimming our programs and activities to match our limited resources at hand.
4
With such an aim, towards the end of the year, we had succeeded in clearing our vision towards building our mission,
our corresponding programs, activities and envisioned results. Markedly, we had initiated ‘WS-HAS’ – ‘Harnessing
Synergies’ and created Resource Rosters of two distinct categories - ‘Roster of Resource Persons (Individual) and Roster
of Resource Persons (Institutional). The twofold aim of this initiative was to encourage stake holding from all quarters
from the Resource Persons’ end on the one hand and create interface opportunities and channel/access to all kinds of
resources, ‘financial’ as well as ‘non-financial’, to our wide spectrum of women on our WS-SYMNET (Symbiotic Network)
of women, on the other. We thank all well-wishers, resource persons and resource institutions that have expressed
common stakes.
The women’s symbiotic network with a corresponding synergistic network among individual and institutional members
constituting our WS-Resource Pool and its interface along various fronts aimed to be created by WS is akin to the
functioning of ‘synapses formation’ in human brains! All along WS is catalytically engaged in fostering the collective
strengths of women and their access to resources of all kinds, the need for which is articulated by themselves from time
to time, for which a ready to reach ‘Resource Pool’ and a huge group of women ever ready to cash in, are both equally
important in terms of keeping them live and ticking! This would then help women move on at a greater pace while
constantly motivating their counterparts as well, from ‘where they find themselves’ at any given point, to ‘where they
aspire to be’ – which is precisely our mission!
Appreciatively yours,
Vaidehi Krishnan

III. Our Vision & Mission:
Such a clarity of vision of ours had emerged as a consequence of our visioning exercise undertaken by us
towards the end of this year and consequently, all our programs and activities thus got slotted in accordance
with the above classification of the entire implementation process involved.
Our Vision:
“To see women in their rightful, secure self-created positions of pride within
their families, society and the nation at large”
Our Mission:
“To establish ‘Synergies & Symbiotic Relationships’ among women from
varied backgrounds that would in turn facilitate their individual and
collective growth towards the creation of a ‘Self-sustained’ Resource Pool’
for themselves and their ‘Circumstantially Challenged’ counterparts.”
6
IV. Our Philosophy, Values, & Approach:
(This section and the next have been repeated intentionally, to cater to our ‘first time’ readers of our Report)
Our underpinning philosophy and the related approach of ours, towards our mission is that of ‘Appreciative Inquiry’
(AI); a concept chosen for adaption both at organizational level as well as for facilitating women on our platform along
their personal paths in life towards ‘Appreciative Living’ (AL).
The task in front of us is to make women shed their negative mindsets, fears and anxieties and operate from their innate,
latent strengths and inner bliss. This would automatically erase their ‘inferiority complex, ‘low’ self-esteem levels if any
and leave them with the most importantly sought ‘clarity of mind’ for taking the right and timely decisions related to
their self-charted goals. The concepts of Appreciative Inquiry adapted by women facilitate the above process leading
them towards more ‘fulfilled’ lives, as they hone the corresponding life skills and become their own spokespersons.
Alongside, the spirit of ‘giving back to society, caring and sharing, respecting other’s views, strengths, belongings and
so on that happen, further promote progress.
All the greatest and most important problems of life are fundamentally insoluble... They can never be solved,
but only outgrown. This "outgrowing" proves on further investigation to require a new level of consciousness.
Some higher or wider interest appeared on the horizon and through this broadening of outlook the insoluble
problem lost its urgency. It was not solved logically in its own terms but faded when confronted with a new
and stronger life urge.
— Carl Jung
(Also, please visit ‘The AI Assumptions Box at Annex 1; Table 1, for a contextual overview of AI being inter-woven in WS programs.)
Our work is confined to the realms of ‘preventive’ and ‘promotional’ actions rather than ‘interventional’. We restrict our
domain to the former two, for two reasons: 1) What goes into ‘interventional’ process is not our forte; and 2) There is
no need to ‘reinvent’ the wheel as there are many institutions providing interventional services and the idea is to work
in sync with them. With due respect for the ‘need’ for intervention, though, referrals to stakeholders, both individual
and institutional, are organized wherever such need for interventions arises
Our idea is to avert the ‘need’ for intervention to begin with as it is costlier in terms of money as well as time which is a
prime resource. Thus, our aim is to reach out to all women, irrespective of their backgrounds, in a judgment-free,
empathetic manner ensuring that any prejudices or boundaries restraining them, including attitudinal, are all removed
in order to facilitate symbiotic relationships and create synergies amongst them at the basic preventive and promotional
space chosen by us.
We reach out to our target group mainly through word of mouth, internet and other social media, NGOs, individuals
and institutions referring them to us, on first cum first served basis, subject to availability of resources.
We are approachable by any woman irrespective of the geographical location she hails from, currently from Delhi &
NCR excepting for some select e-programs and activities open to some other states.
Also, important and noteworthy is the fact we are not ‘constituency’ based as we believe this would be an impediment
for women falling out of such chosen constituencies, even in the case of a few women who choose to seek our support.
7
V. Our Target Group, Focus Areas & Objectives:
Our target group of women (though not limited to) would focus on ‘circumstantially (physically, socially, psychologically
and/or financially) challenged) women. As the middle-income group deserves special attention; being a very large and
ever-growing one with a lot of ambitious women struggling to fulfill their missions and dreams, they are considered
important too. So, through the symbiotic functioning of women among various classes and groups of women synergies
built among them would fuel us towards the attainment of our mission.
Our main focus areas are:
Promoting Emotional well-being
Fueling self-development with 'self-initiatives
Building Capacities – plugging the gap between where women ARE, to where they aspire to BE
Reinforcing Avenues for women’s Income –generation prospects towards economic self-reliance
Our core values besides others are:
Integrity, Equivalence, Transparency, &
Confidentiality of information related to
personal lives of our women.
All our programs & activities are hinged
around the emotional wellness of women.
Our work by and large involves all that it
takes to ‘avert’ the very need for
intervention in the long run.
8
Facilitating Networks & Synergies/Symbiotic functions
Fostering the spirit of ‘Harmony’, ‘Caring’ & ‘Sharing’;
Hand holding of women wishing to adapt concepts of ‘Appreciative Inquiry’ in their lives, for
'Appreciative Living'
While the above are our focus areas, our program objectives reflect our strategic objectives as displayed in our
‘Highlights of WS’ Programs & Activities’ section that follows. All our programs and activities are hinged around the
emotional well-being and holistic development of women.
VI. Our Programs & Activities:
1. WS-SYMNET - (Symbiotic Network) of Women:
PROGRAM OBJECTIVE:
To encourage the formation and growth and sustenance of a ‘one-point convergence’ platform
constituted by women from varied backgrounds coming on steadily to an ever-growing database
for women, to function symbiotically while expressing solidarity with WS’ mission.
Some highlighted features:
 A ‘cost-free’ networking opportunity for women;
 An opportunity to access WS and other programs in the market and get notified about these from time to time;
 Accessibility to others on network at individual, group & and self-created group levels while availing of the
‘window of visibility’ for showcasing themselves to the wider world;
 Flexibility in terms of opting to join or delink from the network at any point in time;
 Confidentiality when it comes to personal information related to women
Our WS-SYMNET (Symbiotic Network) of women has no ‘eligibility’ criteria whatsoever and has a count of 400+women
with women from all backgrounds including those from less advantaged backgrounds joining this network steadily.
The following information pertaining to women signing up on this network will be shared with the public:
1. Name; 2. Age; 3. Professional Background /Other status; 4. Geographical area of residence.
Individual profiles providing further information will also be accepted for portraying on our website if forthcoming from
women on their own volition. Also, such information would remain confidential and would be shared only among co-
members to facilitate and encourage their networking among themselves.
To buffer this network, this year, our focus would be along the following:
• Creation of a corresponding, parallel plane of individual and institutional stakeholders to ensure the stability
of this network to provide the proposed ‘connectivity’ among the two, namely, the women’s network and the
Resource Pool;
• A retrievable database designed by experts to a level of functionality that helps monitor and update the same
periodically for uploading online on our upcoming website;
• A mass-mailer system backed by technology to notify members on latest happenings at WS;
Extend to each person, no matter how trivial the contact, all the care and kindness
and understanding and love that you can muster, and do it with no thought of any
reward. Your life will never be the same again.
Og Mandino – 1923-1996, Author
9
• A monitoring team christened as ‘Magic Eyes’ Team to monitor programs as well as act as conduits, along with
systems and processes in place that would be needed to analyze the pattern, life and growth of the network.
• The proactive involvement of youth in areas like planning, marketing, program and event management.
All women registering themselves on this network constitute the WS-SYMNET, though all participants attending our
other programs, by default get on to this network as well, unless they make a specific request for deletion which has
not happened so far even in a single case. This network which facilitates ‘direct’ social networking is ideal for women to
access opportunities, gain access as well as visibility to others on our database and the interface to other networks
within WS.
We welcome women of Delhi & NCR to come in large numbers from all backgrounds to form part of it and give it the
kind of depth and expansion that would attract resources for them.
2. WS-WOM -Women’s Orientation Meet Program:
PROGRAM OBJECTIVE:
To orient newcomer women mission, on the vision mission and philosophy of Women’s Synergy
and help them explore their respective avenues of participation as well as the prospective ‘take-
offs’ from this platform.
Some features highlighted:
 Women taking turns to host women’s meets in their own homes;
 Participants from varied backgrounds;
 Small groups of ten to twelve women getting an opportunity to interact 1:1 and in-depth amongst themselves as a
small group;
 Spirit of sharing, caring and giving back to society fostered
 Trailer session by ‘Resource persons’ as prequel to main program
“WOM” or Women’s Orientation Meet Program was created for unfolding our WS mandate to an audience hailing from
varied backgrounds of women. Thus, a ‘Trailer session’ by a distinguished Resource in ‘individual’ capacity or as one
representing an institution is organized for facilitating the sharing of their resources with our WS-SYMNET members
and other first timer women participants attending these sessions.
This trailer helps in bonding of the participant group as well as the matching of wavelengths among them for a collective
absorption, reflection and discussion related to our mandate that is unfolded soon after the trailer session.
Resource persons and institutions are encouraged to sign up on our Roster of Resource Persons who then by default
become our WS-SYMNET members as well and contribute voluntarily or otherwise, enriching the formation of our WS
Resource Pool (Please visit Section IX: ‘Blueprint for WS’ Resource Pool for Women’).
WS ‘WOM’ Meet for ‘Less Advantaged Women of Dhallupura, East Delhi on December 13th
2015 entitled ‘Our heartfelt
Expressions of Emotional Wellness’:
As this program was put together within a short period’s notice, the usual ‘Trailer Session’ could not be organized.
However, the participants, ten aspiring women, young and old, from less advantaged backgrounds, with dreams of
living peaceful, progressive lives shared their inner most heartfelt expressions of concerns and feelings and experiences
of all sorts within this group. The women were in turn given guidance and tips on health, well-being and opportunities
with respect to their individual levels of development and capabilities. An opportunity to enroll themselves in a free,
certified ‘Peace Education’ program by one our Resource Institutions was announced for participants.
10
The women were gifted new pair of socks and full sleeve woolen sweaters, for their children which were received by
them with a great deal of joy. These were sponsored by one of our ex-program participants of our ‘Tapping Inner
Strength (WS-TIS) program who had continued to remain our well-wisher forever.
3. WS- ‘TIS’ – Tapping Inner Strength Program:
(A psycho-social counseling & Emotional well-being program for women)
PROGRAM OBJECTIVE:
To provide women a platform that is conducive for women to share their personal
concerns in a confidential and professional manner and utilize 1:1 ‘psycho-social’,
group counseling and peer interaction sessions to move on in their lives in an
emotionally fulfilled manner adapting principles of ‘Appreciative Living’
Some features highlighted:
 Women have access to online as well as 1:1 coaching
 Referrals to subsidized interventions wherever necessary;
 Rescript lives through ‘creative visualization’ guided reflection sessions
 Self-counseling & access to peer support groups
 Access to free spiritual talks, retreats & programs

All kinds of support from counseling, coaching and peer interactions and group support are all being facilitated through
this program. Participant women have vouched for it through their testimonials sent to us through mails, social media
and other channels. Their emotional wellness being the focus, in October 2015, an online
Women’s Synergy ‘chat room’ was inaugurated, to ensure that women get access to virtual coaching sessions facilitated
by Ms. Vaidehi Krishnan, from their comfort zones within their own homes. Distances are hence no more a barrier as
they could opt for such a facility irrespective of their geographical locations. So, 1:1 face-to-face sessions; group
mentoring sessions; follow-up support through e-mails, together sum up what is in store for our TIS participants. A
participant from Bangalore had benefited as seen from her testimonial about the WS-TIS program.
The ‘TIS-WhatsApp’ Group which was set up last year is still continuing with women constantly motivating themselves
through quotes and inspiring stories, tapping technology to their advantage. Positive thoughts, day-to-day exchange
of positive news, anecdotes, notes and quotes all keep pinging day in and day out and has worked as a great source of
inspiration in itself. It is commendable to find the WS-TIS-WhatsApp Group maintain ‘WhatsApp etiquettes without the
need for any kind of moderation from WS!
While all our ex-program participants are still active on our SYMNET database, an ex-TIS participant (who is a self-
employed entrepreneur currently on our roster of resource persons and SYM member) still continues donating brand
new T-shirts for our women’s children. Such donations are in turn given to other less advantaged women (mothers) in
our group who turn up at development programs or even merit the same from us by enrolling their girl children in
school!
Other significant activities this year were:
Special poems created for women to help them reflect on their own states of mind, holistic health and overall wellbeing;
special among them being ‘Spiraling Perils’ focusing on the importance of weaning oneself from the detrimental habit of
smoking and its relationship with health and overall wellness. The same is also meant for being put up on our upcoming
website, shared in our ‘TIS’ Workshops and so on.

b) The poem “Hey! I’m a girl, just born!”; written for women on the eve of International Women’s Day –by Vaidehi Krishnan
was dedicated specially to some of our TIS-participant women as well as to flag off the theme of our WS Kaleidoscope
program.
4. WS - ‘TReP’ – Talent Revive Program:
(A self-reliance program for women)
PROGRAM OBJECTIVE:
To encourage, promote, showcase and revive talent of various kinds, either left behind by
women themselves or those on the verge of going extinct, by offering as many support
functions as possible like marketing, institutional linkages and so on, towards their economic
self-reliance/augmentation of family income and emotional well-being.
Some highlighted features:
 Women bounce back to their pre-hibernation phase in terms of talents & skills;
 Women perceive such an opportunity as a buffer for their emotional well-being, income-generation or augmenting
family income;
 Women tap excellent capacity building, networking, marketing and showcasing opportunities and various kinds of
support for their talent;
 Women explore multiple avenues for ‘give back to society’ by transferring their skills and talent to their less
advantaged counterparts;
 Women can operate from their own homes reaching out to those in the vicinity.
A program to help promote women’s talent and hobbies and serve as a fall back in times of their tough financial times,
our TReP Program is also an excellent bolster for women’s low self-esteem levels and for augmenting family income as
well; giving them a heightened sense of self-worth.
WS pitches in, complementing their efforts in marketing, helping them network, build their entrepreneurial capacities
and register growth from their current levels in terms of quality, branding and so on.
For the third time in succession, this year, WS was allotted a free stall at BITS Pilani on 21st
October 2015 where our
women’s exhibits were displayed and their spirit of participation was encouraged. This program however has to be
publicized among wider circles to encourage increased participation both in terms of numbers and variety of products.
13
This year’s highlights:
The BITS Pilani exhibition on signing of an MOU with NSS-BITS Pilani for the third year in succession.
5. WS – ‘WOK’ – Women’s Kaleidoscope Program:
(A multi-theme program suiting women’s individual interests and aptitudes):
PROGRAM OBJECTIVE:
To provide theme-based options for women to form symbiotic relationships and tap synergies amongst themselves
while pursuing various avenues within this program; for self-development/self-gratification/sharing of resources/giving
back to society.
Some highlighted features:
 Women have the option of choosing from amongst various themes offered to them or one of their own suggested
to us;
 Women shed their inhibitions and get on to a ‘pro-active’/ ‘initiative-taking’ mode when it comes to hosing
organizing/leading their chosen theme-based events;
 Women can host these programs in their own homes/vicinity of their own homes;
 Women can brainstorm amongst their groups on various themes and come up with these among their groups in a
participatory manner developing their own ideas and projects;
 Women can tap into our Resource Pool for ideas, support and facilitation of their self-designed programs.
Indian women hail from an amazingly eclectic mix of backgrounds and are akin to colourful bits of ‘bangles’ used in the
instrument called ‘kaleidoscope’. ‘WS-WOK’ (also meaning ‘a dish’ or a ‘pan’ instrumental in producing that ‘final recipe’)
acts as kaleidoscope instrumental in creating colourful patterns from out of those very irregular bits of bangles!’ Thus,
the acronym! ‘WS-WOK’ facilitates vibrant movement of such women from various backgrounds exploring themselves,
their peers and their aptitudes and interests in a creative, participatory, exploratory manner. Women are given free
reigns for choosing their own themes and ideas besides those suggested by WS, as depicted below. Thus, there is ample
scope for them to collectively create umpteen permutations and combinations of the WOK and its themes which can
work wonders when it comes to their engagement and development, both at individual as well as collective levels.
Two albums; one for ‘WS-Culinary Synergies’ theme and the other for our ‘WS-Musical Synergies’ program
are planned to be brought out. The twin objective of these albums is to make these instrumental in creating
harmonious relationships among women from varied backgrounds.
This program thus merits the consideration of promotion, pooling in of material resources and funds for marketing
and organizing the program and importantly, participation of women from all ages and irrespective of religious,
cultural or other backgrounds.
WS-RL – ‘Rescripting Life’: This program is a kind of sequel or extension of the ‘Tapping Inner Strength’
program. Those taking on the challenge of working on their weaknesses or showing their grit and determination
to work on the challenges faced by them in life deem this as a ‘self-prescription’ for their emotional states of
OUR ‘WS-WOK’ THEMES:
1. ‘WS-CS’ – ‘CULINARY SYNERGIES’;
2. ‘WS-MS’- ‘MUSICAL SYNERGIES’;
3. ‘WS-SYNGO’ – SYNERGIES ‘ON-THE-GO’;
4. ‘WS-RL’ – ‘RESCRIPTING LIFE’;
5. ‘WS-LOL’ – ‘LOADS OF LAUGHTER’;
6. ‘WS-HR’ - HOBBY ROOMS;
7. ‘WS-WS’ – ‘WOMEN SAMARITANS’

well-being. The participant is expected to work closely with her mentor and follow a guided customized ‘creative
visualization’ process especially suited for her unique life situation faced and as shared by her.
So, while a doctor’s prescription for healing the body has the ‘RX’ this ‘RL’ is prescription for the mind, the
difference being that it is prescribed by the woman participant herself!
A Creative Visualization exercise program was created for women wishing to work on their health issues, as a
preventive measure and for their psychosomatic disorders.
6. WS Ps & Qs - Pictures & Questions Program:
(An action-oriented Research & Documentation Project for women)
PROGRAM OBJECTIVE:
To help women unleash the ‘power’ and role of questioning in self-development and tap
human rights, etc., while contributing to WS’ ‘Women’s Own ‘Q & A’ Bank for a higher purpose
related to women’s lives.
Some highlighted features:
 Women’s questions collected are ‘anonymous’
 Women are oriented and groomed as Lead facilitators for this program and facilitate the flow of women’s
questions;
 The Questions bank attracts answers from the WS Desk and gets transformed in due course to WS’ Q & A Bank
 The Q & A bank is envisioned to serve as a source of Research & Documentation for WS as well as other research
organizations having stakes in women’s development;
The questions collected so far are being categorized into five fields for the time being namely, career, relationships,
parenting, health, emotional wellness.
We are still on the look-out for strategic tie-ups with various resource persons and institutions from the above fields
for facilitating access to their expert opinions on the answers provided from our end. We eagerly look forward to our
newly initiated ‘WS-HAS’ – Harnessing Synergies program which can attract the kind of stake holding envisioned by us
for taking our mission forward and vibrant women and other bloggers analyzing their Qs and As!!
Plans are afoot to bring this program under our ‘Research & Development’ wing to give a boost to women’s spirit of
questioning and satiate their quest for answers through our various communication channels like our upcoming blogs,
publications and so on, in the future.

VII. Our Interns & VOWS:
As has always been so, there was a steady flow of youth from the student community this year as well, seeking
opportunities to serve the public at large while gaining experience along many development fields of professional
development.
The portal www.internshala.com was identified to match our requirements with all such students seeking opportunities
in the social sector and this year, we happened to hire an intern for completion of some tasks related to web
development w.r.t certain sections of our website.
One of our VOWS (Volunteers of WS) on our roster had shown exemplary zeal and enthusiasm in developing two new
program/event logos related to our upcoming program – i) Women-Xpress & ii) WeMenXpress as seen here below:
VIII. International Women’s Day Celebrations:
This day which was celebrated on 12th
March 2015, during the International Women’s Week, saw the coming together
of women from varying backgrounds for sharing deep reflections around women’s development through several
decades of the century. Ms. Vaidehi Krishnan narrated the history of women’s movements world over along with
glimpses of the approaches towards development vis-à-vis women’s emancipation, growth and development along the
tunnels of time. Enraptured participants also expressed their individual feelings and emotions hinged around
development issues and their individual perspectives.
IX. Blueprint for WS’ Resource Pool for Women:
Early this year, seeds were sown to raise and grow our much-envisioned Resource pool to fuel our mission, as depicted
in the form of our blueprint that follows:
Women are coaxed to move on from their ‘IF’ Questions to the ‘HOW’ Questions for being SUCCESSFUL!
-- Women’s Synergy
A ‘joyous’, eclectic mix with the ‘spirit of togetherness ‘- on IWD 2016 –
the very spirit which matters most to WS! Right: A highly spirited creation of
banner with ‘sea-shells’, by one of our VOWS, Ms. Tania Shome!
16
The success and the magical ‘caring and sharing’ spirit is what matters in making this dream of ours true. We expect
this spirit of giving to help all contributors reap rich benefits and the desired gratification sought by them along with
any or all of its indirect benefits in store for them. This would inspire them to hold the beacon for others to emulate
them and take turns. So, we welcome everyone to experience the joy of participation in a manner of their own choice.
X. Milestones; our Touchstones:
Milestones are dreamt of much before getting materialized! Here are some of those materialized as well as some
queued up in the pipeline!
Our WS Resource Rosters corresponding to both Individual and Institutional Resource Persons is being fueled for
growth and productivity in terms of women’s access to fulfil their individual /collective growth needs;
MOU signed with NSS-BITS Pilani; for our third annual stall allotment at Pilani for WS TreP Participants;
Our Income Tax Exemption Certificate u/s 80G; from GOI’s IT Dept. (the process initiated - prospect in pipeline);
Our strategic tie ups with institutional and individual Resource Persons through our WS-Harnessing Synergies (WS-
HAS) initiative launched this year to help build our envisioned Resource Pool for women.
Our compendium of scores of poems for women and youth readied for publication;
WS Anthem, song, program related poems, marketing materials, logos, articles; and blog materials for use at various
workshops/events have all been created ‘in-house’ without incurring any expenditure whatsoever, though the
invaluable time and efforts of Team WS!
A ‘Women’s Own Q & A’ Bank readied with anonymous questions answered by the WS-Desk and ready for compilation,
publication, blogs, discussion and debates, research and analysis by interested parties and institutions, besides women
themselves.
Represented Women’s Synergy on Case Western University’s Design Jam Team’s site -http://aicommonsideascale.com
for portraying the adaptation of phases of application of AI and its principles.
A vision building exercise lent great clarity to our mission, with Ms. Jyotsna Krishnan who has a Management &
Finance background shaping up the future vision of WS; and based on her basic idea of compartmentalization of WS
operations as explained above, the idea was taken forward further by Ms. Vaidehi Krishnan for portraying the WS
mission through an ‘infographic as developed by her with the technological expertise provided by Ms. Aishwarya
Teeparthi, member of our VOWS team.

XI. Our Heartfelt Acknowledgements:
A look down the road traveled during this year, has given insights into what made such wonderful things possible and
how so many well-wishers chipped in their bit to make it so! Of course, more could have been accomplished if the
momentum was jacked up harnessing other support systems and financial support as well!! We thank all our supporters,
well-wishers, program participants and hosts and wish them the very best, and for ourselves, a life-term association
with them! Please visit our ‘Acknowledgements’ section at Annexure 6.
XII. Financials:
This is an important section giving insights into the nature of expenses and the fact that WS needs financial support to
take its mission well into the future. The Balance Sheet for the FY – 2015-16 as well as the ‘Income & Expenditure’
statements have been displayed as seen in Annexures 5a & 5b. We look forward to procurement of our 80G and an
FCRA exemptions in the future so that it becomes possible to garner the funding support of institutions for our various
programs facilitating their implementation as well as for administrative functions of our organization.
XIII. Looking Forward; Plans for the Future:
We at WS hold the firm belief that there can be no learning/insights like the ones we get from challenges or even
failures for that matter! We look forward to opportunities that help us constantly gear up to transforming these very
challenges into opportunities for WS and our women members. For WS, any day, ‘happy faces’ of women, such as the
one in this picture mean so much!
XIV. Our Wish List:
We wish to gain consistent, long-term support from:
 Interns or organizations who intend to help us air our website, the development of which is still under
progress;
 A marketing team that can help us promote our programs with digital marketing and optimum use
of social media publicity
 Persons who’s forte is ‘creative’ writing for portraying various elements through all our
communication channels including social media links;
 Trainers and facilitators for conducting customized training programs for women w.r.t. various facets
of their development More individual and institutional representation on our WS-Roster.
Please visit our Annexure Section for our specific wish list recap!
XV. Conclusion:
We are sure that in the years to come, our younger generation will hold the reigns of WS and take it to great heights!
We also bank on technology to facilitate better organization of training programs, marketing, blogging and so on.
We look forward to a pattern of rich and mutually enriching dialogues, interactions and strategic alliances
between WS and various organizations, youth and women from all backgrounds so as to fortify our mission
with each passing year.

Please turn over for ANNEXURES (1-6)
ANNEXURE 1 - THE ‘AI’ ASSUMPTIONS BOX
THE ‘TEN TENETS OF AI’ EMBEDDED IN WS’ PROGRAMS:
ASSUMPTIONS & WS’ PROGRAMS:
1 & 2 : WS-TIS (Tapping Inner Strength)
3, 4 & 8 : WS-TIS; WS-SYM (Symbiotic Meets Program)
: 5 : WS-Ps & Qs (Pictures & Questions)
6 & 7 : WS-TIS
AI follows the following
‘eight assumed
observations’
of the
human
behaviours/systems:
1. In every society, organization, or group, SOMETHING works!
WS facilitates women’s discovering ’WHAT WORKS’ for them/their groups.
2. What we FOCUS ON becomes our reality.
WS helps women develop positive focus, eg.: ‘`WOMEN CAN MAKE THIS WORLD A ‘SAFE’
PLACE TO LIVE’.
3. Reality is created IN THE MOMENT, and there are MULTIPLE REALITIES.
WS facilitates the widening of women’s horizon to accept and accommodate many realities
adopting the belief: ‘AS MANY REALITIES; AS MANY VIEW POINTS
4. The LANGUAGE WE USE creates our reality.
WS helps women exercise ‘BENIGN ASSERTION’ along their paths of negotiation and
emphasizes the importance of the ‘LANGUAGE ELEMENT’ while doing so.
5. The act of ASKING QUESTIONS of a group INFLUENCES it in some way.
WS facilitates women’s articulation of their concern for self-development, human rights and
so on, through THE ART OF QUESTIONING.
6. People have MORE CONFIDENCE AND COMFORT TO JOURNEY TO THE FUTURE (the
unknown); when they CARRY FORWARD PARTS OF THE KNOWN. (PAST)
WS orients apprises /orients women on ‘CALCULATIVE RISKS’ when venturing out of their zones
while MANAGING CHANGE and facing associated challenges.
7. If we carry parts of the past forward, they should THEREFORE BE THE BEST ABOUT OUR
PAST.
WS facilitates the ‘SUPER-IMPOSING’ of women’s negative thoughts related to fear, anxiety
etc., stemming out of their negative past experience, with PLEASANT MEMORIES attached to
their success, cordial relationships & happy moments of THEIR PAST.
8. It is important to HONOUR/VALUE DIFFERENCES.
WS stimulates women’s thoughts on this importance, for e.g., while they encounter challenges
related to handling their relationships within their families and groups of people from divergent
backgrounds at their respective places of work, society and so on.
19
The ten tenets or principles – (five core and five emergent) related to our philosophy, ‘Appreciative Inquiry’ are being
interwoven with our approach, methodologies, training sessions and activities as far as possible and wherever
appropriate, as has been described in our various programs detailed above, and are portrayed as a ‘recap’ in the
table here below:
Thus, ‘AL’ or Appreciative Living, adapted from the above tenets of our underpinning philosophy, AI, is steadily getting reinforced keeping the
‘Assumptions’ seen listed in ‘Annexure I.’ at the backdrop. All these are gradually getting blended into our mission related activities and
programs., development of WS as an organization as well as scope for adoption of these in the individual lives of women.
(For enquiries about our AI orientation programs on offer, please get in touch with us!)
THE FIVE CORE PRINCIPLES OF AI:
ANTICIPATORY; SIMULTANEITY; CONSTRUCTIONIST; POETIC & POSITIVE;

THE FIVE EMERGENT PRINCIPLES OF AI:
WHOLENESS; ENACTMENT; FREEDOM OF CHOICE; AWARENESS & NARRATIVE.

ANNEXURE 4 – TESTIMONIALS
"We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a
drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less
because of that drop.” -- Mother Teresa
“It was nice talking to you. I appreciate your efforts to help
and empower women through your activities. I also appreciate
your involvement in environmental protection. It is really great
to see your spontaneous talent in creating a beautiful poem
on parrot keeping the feature of parrot in your mind. Please
continue the efforts. Wish you all the best.”
Dr. Vincent, Environmentalist, Chennai
M very lucky to have someone so elderly n dearly from out
there .... so far away yet trying to make me feel better in my
current tumultuous time ...literally going through hell.
Love u (thinking of u as my mother n in her place) Vydehi
ma'am.
Miss u.
Shweta (Name changed)– excerpts of email from an outstation
TIS participant
Dear Vaidehi,
Hope you are doing well back in Delhi. My
apologies for being so slow to reply.
Thanks for attaching your annual report! I am
impressed to see it being prepared with so much
detail, including the financial reporting. I am sure
the women you work with benefit immensely with
this lovely and thoughtful initiative.
Wish you good luck with WS and maybe will meet
you the next time you are in Bangalore!
Regards
Shreya, Bangalore

“Women’s Synergy (WS) is an awe-inspiring platform created
by motivated women, for women. A place to share our concerns
and also our skills, and at the same time, to learn and grow. I
wish WS all the very best, for all its initiatives and programs.
If there is a need for any of my skills and expertise, I would be
delighted to contribute and make a difference to one individual,
or a group. In the process become a partner in making our
world more joyful, peaceful and loving.”
Ms. Savita Wakhlu, Delhi
“Hello WS team,
First of all I apologize for not being in touch through mails since
the time we all met on the Women's day.
I must appreciate the heartily efforts of Vydehi Ji for clubbing
the women and tapping their inner power within.
On Women's day we all gathered at WS, since most of us were
meeting each other for the first time but with taking not much
time we started mingled with each other so wonderfully that
soon were enjoying and flowing along with the beautiful energy
within our group.
The question bank is another wonderful thing what I feel. This
is the best way to bringing out our core concerns and getting
the answers so nicely. Not only I got the answer of my question
from the experts but I also got to know additional common
concerns too.”
Anu, Delhi
Dear Mam,
Greetings, it’s really so nice of you to have taken out
your precious time to answer those queries and I
could understand that it needs something much
more than experience and maturity to answer all of
them appropriately.
Your answer to my question, "How to identify
the inner strength and utilize it" was very thoughtful
and deeper. I would rate it 5/5. Also, I liked the other
answers and feel that everyone will be satisfied.
Thank you so much. Regards,
Ruchi.

  • 3. 3 I. The Context: Indian women themselves constitute a great “collective resource”, given the fact that they hail from a wide spectrum perhaps like nowhere else in the world! The permutations and combinations created by such a huge, eclectic mix of our populace and their varying educational, cultural, regional, socio-economic and other backgrounds is astounding! Hence, this fact does merit stakeholders’ attention - that this huge potential resource could be tapped well to our advantage, to begin with. However, this strategy would be effective only when there is ample encouragement, hand holding and trigger for our women to come forward through their own ‘self- initiatives’, synergize among themselves and form ‘symbiotic relationships’ with corresponding knowledge of its effectiveness, to be able to produce our envisioned results. Such symbiotic functioning with the ‘spirit of synergies’ also produces other multifold positive outcomes like empathy, caring and sharing, greater understanding of multiple view-points and an ‘Appreciative’ approach to life and living, besides just physically teaming up towards achievement of specific time-bound targets as seen in various groups, associations, places of work, families and so on. With increasingly divisive forces in operation particularly in today’s context, it is high time a mindset is created wherein it is deemed every individual’s responsibility towards oneself and the larger community and societies in which they live, to ensure all that it takes to preserve the ‘individual’ well-being, family well-being as a natural but conscientiously created state of ‘collective well-being’ of which each and every single woman has stakes! Developing an appreciative eye for strengths, values, and assets creates the beacon, the spot of light, that glows with possibility and hope. & THE SPOTLIGHT THEREFORE, IS ON ‘APPRECIATIVE’ SYNERGES & SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIPS! II. Our Managing Trustee Shares: Dear friends, It gives me immense pleasure unfolding ‘Appreciative Synergies’ covering all that had transpired during the financial year ‘2015-16 marking our third year of existence. While on our onward journey we wish to take this opportunity to thank Ms. Ria Ghoshal, our Co-Trustees for having been with us through our first couple of years. She had chosen to resign with effect from 1st April 2015 from her position on our Board, due to the fact that her professional sphere of activities increasingly demanded her presence out of India. This year, our focus was pinned on two milestones – 1) Deciphering ways and means of creating synergies at yet another plane – that of stakeholders, both individual and institutional. In keeping with our underpinning philosophy, that of Appreciative Inquiry, needless to say, our quest in this direction has also been that of an ‘Appreciative’ search for stakeholders having a positive, holistic and appreciative approach, as far as possible; and 2) A vision planning exercise trimming our programs and activities to match our limited resources at hand.
  • 4. 4 With such an aim, towards the end of the year, we had succeeded in clearing our vision towards building our mission, our corresponding programs, activities and envisioned results. Markedly, we had initiated ‘WS-HAS’ – ‘Harnessing Synergies’ and created Resource Rosters of two distinct categories - ‘Roster of Resource Persons (Individual) and Roster of Resource Persons (Institutional). The twofold aim of this initiative was to encourage stake holding from all quarters from the Resource Persons’ end on the one hand and create interface opportunities and channel/access to all kinds of resources, ‘financial’ as well as ‘non-financial’, to our wide spectrum of women on our WS-SYMNET (Symbiotic Network) of women, on the other. We thank all well-wishers, resource persons and resource institutions that have expressed common stakes. The women’s symbiotic network with a corresponding synergistic network among individual and institutional members constituting our WS-Resource Pool and its interface along various fronts aimed to be created by WS is akin to the functioning of ‘synapses formation’ in human brains! All along WS is catalytically engaged in fostering the collective strengths of women and their access to resources of all kinds, the need for which is articulated by themselves from time to time, for which a ready to reach ‘Resource Pool’ and a huge group of women ever ready to cash in, are both equally important in terms of keeping them live and ticking! This would then help women move on at a greater pace while constantly motivating their counterparts as well, from ‘where they find themselves’ at any given point, to ‘where they aspire to be’ – which is precisely our mission! Appreciatively yours, Vaidehi Krishnan
  • 5. 5 III. Our Vision & Mission: Such a clarity of vision of ours had emerged as a consequence of our visioning exercise undertaken by us towards the end of this year and consequently, all our programs and activities thus got slotted in accordance with the above classification of the entire implementation process involved. Our Vision: “To see women in their rightful, secure self-created positions of pride within their families, society and the nation at large” Our Mission: “To establish ‘Synergies & Symbiotic Relationships’ among women from varied backgrounds that would in turn facilitate their individual and collective growth towards the creation of a ‘Self-sustained’ Resource Pool’ for themselves and their ‘Circumstantially Challenged’ counterparts.”
  • 6. 6 IV. Our Philosophy, Values, & Approach: (This section and the next have been repeated intentionally, to cater to our ‘first time’ readers of our Report) Our underpinning philosophy and the related approach of ours, towards our mission is that of ‘Appreciative Inquiry’ (AI); a concept chosen for adaption both at organizational level as well as for facilitating women on our platform along their personal paths in life towards ‘Appreciative Living’ (AL). The task in front of us is to make women shed their negative mindsets, fears and anxieties and operate from their innate, latent strengths and inner bliss. This would automatically erase their ‘inferiority complex, ‘low’ self-esteem levels if any and leave them with the most importantly sought ‘clarity of mind’ for taking the right and timely decisions related to their self-charted goals. The concepts of Appreciative Inquiry adapted by women facilitate the above process leading them towards more ‘fulfilled’ lives, as they hone the corresponding life skills and become their own spokespersons. Alongside, the spirit of ‘giving back to society, caring and sharing, respecting other’s views, strengths, belongings and so on that happen, further promote progress. All the greatest and most important problems of life are fundamentally insoluble... They can never be solved, but only outgrown. This "outgrowing" proves on further investigation to require a new level of consciousness. Some higher or wider interest appeared on the horizon and through this broadening of outlook the insoluble problem lost its urgency. It was not solved logically in its own terms but faded when confronted with a new and stronger life urge. — Carl Jung (Also, please visit ‘The AI Assumptions Box at Annex 1; Table 1, for a contextual overview of AI being inter-woven in WS programs.) Our work is confined to the realms of ‘preventive’ and ‘promotional’ actions rather than ‘interventional’. We restrict our domain to the former two, for two reasons: 1) What goes into ‘interventional’ process is not our forte; and 2) There is no need to ‘reinvent’ the wheel as there are many institutions providing interventional services and the idea is to work in sync with them. With due respect for the ‘need’ for intervention, though, referrals to stakeholders, both individual and institutional, are organized wherever such need for interventions arises Our idea is to avert the ‘need’ for intervention to begin with as it is costlier in terms of money as well as time which is a prime resource. Thus, our aim is to reach out to all women, irrespective of their backgrounds, in a judgment-free, empathetic manner ensuring that any prejudices or boundaries restraining them, including attitudinal, are all removed in order to facilitate symbiotic relationships and create synergies amongst them at the basic preventive and promotional space chosen by us. We reach out to our target group mainly through word of mouth, internet and other social media, NGOs, individuals and institutions referring them to us, on first cum first served basis, subject to availability of resources. We are approachable by any woman irrespective of the geographical location she hails from, currently from Delhi & NCR excepting for some select e-programs and activities open to some other states. Also, important and noteworthy is the fact we are not ‘constituency’ based as we believe this would be an impediment for women falling out of such chosen constituencies, even in the case of a few women who choose to seek our support.
  • 7. 7 V. Our Target Group, Focus Areas & Objectives: Our target group of women (though not limited to) would focus on ‘circumstantially (physically, socially, psychologically and/or financially) challenged) women. As the middle-income group deserves special attention; being a very large and ever-growing one with a lot of ambitious women struggling to fulfill their missions and dreams, they are considered important too. So, through the symbiotic functioning of women among various classes and groups of women synergies built among them would fuel us towards the attainment of our mission. Our main focus areas are: Promoting Emotional well-being Fueling self-development with 'self-initiatives Building Capacities – plugging the gap between where women ARE, to where they aspire to BE Reinforcing Avenues for women’s Income –generation prospects towards economic self-reliance Our core values besides others are: Integrity, Equivalence, Transparency, & Confidentiality of information related to personal lives of our women. All our programs & activities are hinged around the emotional wellness of women. Our work by and large involves all that it takes to ‘avert’ the very need for intervention in the long run.
  • 8. 8 Facilitating Networks & Synergies/Symbiotic functions Fostering the spirit of ‘Harmony’, ‘Caring’ & ‘Sharing’; Hand holding of women wishing to adapt concepts of ‘Appreciative Inquiry’ in their lives, for 'Appreciative Living' While the above are our focus areas, our program objectives reflect our strategic objectives as displayed in our ‘Highlights of WS’ Programs & Activities’ section that follows. All our programs and activities are hinged around the emotional well-being and holistic development of women. VI. Our Programs & Activities: 1. WS-SYMNET - (Symbiotic Network) of Women: PROGRAM OBJECTIVE: To encourage the formation and growth and sustenance of a ‘one-point convergence’ platform constituted by women from varied backgrounds coming on steadily to an ever-growing database for women, to function symbiotically while expressing solidarity with WS’ mission. Some highlighted features:  A ‘cost-free’ networking opportunity for women;  An opportunity to access WS and other programs in the market and get notified about these from time to time;  Accessibility to others on network at individual, group & and self-created group levels while availing of the ‘window of visibility’ for showcasing themselves to the wider world;  Flexibility in terms of opting to join or delink from the network at any point in time;  Confidentiality when it comes to personal information related to women Our WS-SYMNET (Symbiotic Network) of women has no ‘eligibility’ criteria whatsoever and has a count of 400+women with women from all backgrounds including those from less advantaged backgrounds joining this network steadily. The following information pertaining to women signing up on this network will be shared with the public: 1. Name; 2. Age; 3. Professional Background /Other status; 4. Geographical area of residence. Individual profiles providing further information will also be accepted for portraying on our website if forthcoming from women on their own volition. Also, such information would remain confidential and would be shared only among co- members to facilitate and encourage their networking among themselves. To buffer this network, this year, our focus would be along the following: • Creation of a corresponding, parallel plane of individual and institutional stakeholders to ensure the stability of this network to provide the proposed ‘connectivity’ among the two, namely, the women’s network and the Resource Pool; • A retrievable database designed by experts to a level of functionality that helps monitor and update the same periodically for uploading online on our upcoming website; • A mass-mailer system backed by technology to notify members on latest happenings at WS; Extend to each person, no matter how trivial the contact, all the care and kindness and understanding and love that you can muster, and do it with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again. Og Mandino – 1923-1996, Author
  • 9. 9 • A monitoring team christened as ‘Magic Eyes’ Team to monitor programs as well as act as conduits, along with systems and processes in place that would be needed to analyze the pattern, life and growth of the network. • The proactive involvement of youth in areas like planning, marketing, program and event management. All women registering themselves on this network constitute the WS-SYMNET, though all participants attending our other programs, by default get on to this network as well, unless they make a specific request for deletion which has not happened so far even in a single case. This network which facilitates ‘direct’ social networking is ideal for women to access opportunities, gain access as well as visibility to others on our database and the interface to other networks within WS. We welcome women of Delhi & NCR to come in large numbers from all backgrounds to form part of it and give it the kind of depth and expansion that would attract resources for them. 2. WS-WOM -Women’s Orientation Meet Program: PROGRAM OBJECTIVE: To orient newcomer women mission, on the vision mission and philosophy of Women’s Synergy and help them explore their respective avenues of participation as well as the prospective ‘take- offs’ from this platform. Some features highlighted:  Women taking turns to host women’s meets in their own homes;  Participants from varied backgrounds;  Small groups of ten to twelve women getting an opportunity to interact 1:1 and in-depth amongst themselves as a small group;  Spirit of sharing, caring and giving back to society fostered  Trailer session by ‘Resource persons’ as prequel to main program “WOM” or Women’s Orientation Meet Program was created for unfolding our WS mandate to an audience hailing from varied backgrounds of women. Thus, a ‘Trailer session’ by a distinguished Resource in ‘individual’ capacity or as one representing an institution is organized for facilitating the sharing of their resources with our WS-SYMNET members and other first timer women participants attending these sessions. This trailer helps in bonding of the participant group as well as the matching of wavelengths among them for a collective absorption, reflection and discussion related to our mandate that is unfolded soon after the trailer session. Resource persons and institutions are encouraged to sign up on our Roster of Resource Persons who then by default become our WS-SYMNET members as well and contribute voluntarily or otherwise, enriching the formation of our WS Resource Pool (Please visit Section IX: ‘Blueprint for WS’ Resource Pool for Women’). WS ‘WOM’ Meet for ‘Less Advantaged Women of Dhallupura, East Delhi on December 13th 2015 entitled ‘Our heartfelt Expressions of Emotional Wellness’: As this program was put together within a short period’s notice, the usual ‘Trailer Session’ could not be organized. However, the participants, ten aspiring women, young and old, from less advantaged backgrounds, with dreams of living peaceful, progressive lives shared their inner most heartfelt expressions of concerns and feelings and experiences of all sorts within this group. The women were in turn given guidance and tips on health, well-being and opportunities with respect to their individual levels of development and capabilities. An opportunity to enroll themselves in a free, certified ‘Peace Education’ program by one our Resource Institutions was announced for participants.
  • 10. 10 The women were gifted new pair of socks and full sleeve woolen sweaters, for their children which were received by them with a great deal of joy. These were sponsored by one of our ex-program participants of our ‘Tapping Inner Strength (WS-TIS) program who had continued to remain our well-wisher forever. 3. WS- ‘TIS’ – Tapping Inner Strength Program: (A psycho-social counseling & Emotional well-being program for women) PROGRAM OBJECTIVE: To provide women a platform that is conducive for women to share their personal concerns in a confidential and professional manner and utilize 1:1 ‘psycho-social’, group counseling and peer interaction sessions to move on in their lives in an emotionally fulfilled manner adapting principles of ‘Appreciative Living’ Some features highlighted:  Women have access to online as well as 1:1 coaching  Referrals to subsidized interventions wherever necessary;  Rescript lives through ‘creative visualization’ guided reflection sessions  Self-counseling & access to peer support groups  Access to free spiritual talks, retreats & programs "Happiness often sneaks in through a door you didn’t know you left open" -- John Barrymore Let us consciously keep the 'Door of Happiness' wide open" --Women's Synergy Less advantaged women from Dhallupura & Ashok Nagar near Vasundhara Enclave attending our ‘WS-WOM’ program – theme: ‘Our Heartfelt Expressions of Emotional Wellness.” - .. • 11. 11 All kinds of support from counseling, coaching and peer interactions and group support are all being facilitated through this program. Participant women have vouched for it through their testimonials sent to us through mails, social media and other channels. Their emotional wellness being the focus, in October 2015, an online Women’s Synergy ‘chat room’ was inaugurated, to ensure that women get access to virtual coaching sessions facilitated by Ms. Vaidehi Krishnan, from their comfort zones within their own homes. Distances are hence no more a barrier as they could opt for such a facility irrespective of their geographical locations. So, 1:1 face-to-face sessions; group mentoring sessions; follow-up support through e-mails, together sum up what is in store for our TIS participants. A participant from Bangalore had benefited as seen from her testimonial about the WS-TIS program. The ‘TIS-WhatsApp’ Group which was set up last year is still continuing with women constantly motivating themselves through quotes and inspiring stories, tapping technology to their advantage. Positive thoughts, day-to-day exchange of positive news, anecdotes, notes and quotes all keep pinging day in and day out and has worked as a great source of inspiration in itself. It is commendable to find the WS-TIS-WhatsApp Group maintain ‘WhatsApp etiquettes without the need for any kind of moderation from WS! While all our ex-program participants are still active on our SYMNET database, an ex-TIS participant (who is a self- employed entrepreneur currently on our roster of resource persons and SYM member) still continues donating brand new T-shirts for our women’s children. Such donations are in turn given to other less advantaged women (mothers) in our group who turn up at development programs or even merit the same from us by enrolling their girl children in school! Other significant activities this year were: Special poems created for women to help them reflect on their own states of mind, holistic health and overall wellbeing; special among them being ‘Spiraling Perils’ focusing on the importance of weaning oneself from the detrimental habit of smoking and its relationship with health and overall wellness. The same is also meant for being put up on our upcoming website, shared in our ‘TIS’ Workshops and so on. • 12. 12 b) The poem “Hey! I’m a girl, just born!”; written for women on the eve of International Women’s Day –by Vaidehi Krishnan was dedicated specially to some of our TIS-participant women as well as to flag off the theme of our WS Kaleidoscope program. 4. WS - ‘TReP’ – Talent Revive Program: (A self-reliance program for women) PROGRAM OBJECTIVE: To encourage, promote, showcase and revive talent of various kinds, either left behind by women themselves or those on the verge of going extinct, by offering as many support functions as possible like marketing, institutional linkages and so on, towards their economic self-reliance/augmentation of family income and emotional well-being. Some highlighted features:  Women bounce back to their pre-hibernation phase in terms of talents & skills;  Women perceive such an opportunity as a buffer for their emotional well-being, income-generation or augmenting family income;  Women tap excellent capacity building, networking, marketing and showcasing opportunities and various kinds of support for their talent;  Women explore multiple avenues for ‘give back to society’ by transferring their skills and talent to their less advantaged counterparts;  Women can operate from their own homes reaching out to those in the vicinity. A program to help promote women’s talent and hobbies and serve as a fall back in times of their tough financial times, our TReP Program is also an excellent bolster for women’s low self-esteem levels and for augmenting family income as well; giving them a heightened sense of self-worth. WS pitches in, complementing their efforts in marketing, helping them network, build their entrepreneurial capacities and register growth from their current levels in terms of quality, branding and so on. For the third time in succession, this year, WS was allotted a free stall at BITS Pilani on 21st October 2015 where our women’s exhibits were displayed and their spirit of participation was encouraged. This program however has to be publicized among wider circles to encourage increased participation both in terms of numbers and variety of products.
  • 13. 13 This year’s highlights: The BITS Pilani exhibition on signing of an MOU with NSS-BITS Pilani for the third year in succession. 5. WS – ‘WOK’ – Women’s Kaleidoscope Program: (A multi-theme program suiting women’s individual interests and aptitudes): PROGRAM OBJECTIVE: To provide theme-based options for women to form symbiotic relationships and tap synergies amongst themselves while pursuing various avenues within this program; for self-development/self-gratification/sharing of resources/giving back to society. Some highlighted features:  Women have the option of choosing from amongst various themes offered to them or one of their own suggested to us;  Women shed their inhibitions and get on to a ‘pro-active’/ ‘initiative-taking’ mode when it comes to hosing organizing/leading their chosen theme-based events;  Women can host these programs in their own homes/vicinity of their own homes;  Women can brainstorm amongst their groups on various themes and come up with these among their groups in a participatory manner developing their own ideas and projects;  Women can tap into our Resource Pool for ideas, support and facilitation of their self-designed programs. Indian women hail from an amazingly eclectic mix of backgrounds and are akin to colourful bits of ‘bangles’ used in the instrument called ‘kaleidoscope’. ‘WS-WOK’ (also meaning ‘a dish’ or a ‘pan’ instrumental in producing that ‘final recipe’) acts as kaleidoscope instrumental in creating colourful patterns from out of those very irregular bits of bangles!’ Thus, the acronym! ‘WS-WOK’ facilitates vibrant movement of such women from various backgrounds exploring themselves, their peers and their aptitudes and interests in a creative, participatory, exploratory manner. Women are given free reigns for choosing their own themes and ideas besides those suggested by WS, as depicted below. Thus, there is ample scope for them to collectively create umpteen permutations and combinations of the WOK and its themes which can work wonders when it comes to their engagement and development, both at individual as well as collective levels. Two albums; one for ‘WS-Culinary Synergies’ theme and the other for our ‘WS-Musical Synergies’ program are planned to be brought out. The twin objective of these albums is to make these instrumental in creating harmonious relationships among women from varied backgrounds. This program thus merits the consideration of promotion, pooling in of material resources and funds for marketing and organizing the program and importantly, participation of women from all ages and irrespective of religious, cultural or other backgrounds. WS-RL – ‘Rescripting Life’: This program is a kind of sequel or extension of the ‘Tapping Inner Strength’ program. Those taking on the challenge of working on their weaknesses or showing their grit and determination to work on the challenges faced by them in life deem this as a ‘self-prescription’ for their emotional states of OUR ‘WS-WOK’ THEMES: 1. ‘WS-CS’ – ‘CULINARY SYNERGIES’; 2. ‘WS-MS’- ‘MUSICAL SYNERGIES’; 3. ‘WS-SYNGO’ – SYNERGIES ‘ON-THE-GO’; 4. ‘WS-RL’ – ‘RESCRIPTING LIFE’; 5. ‘WS-LOL’ – ‘LOADS OF LAUGHTER’; 6. ‘WS-HR’ - HOBBY ROOMS; 7. ‘WS-WS’ – ‘WOMEN SAMARITANS’

The participant is expected to work closely with her mentor and follow a guided customized ‘creative visualization’ process especially suited for her unique life situation faced and as shared by her. So, while a doctor’s prescription for healing the body has the ‘RX’ this ‘RL’ is prescription for the mind, the difference being that it is prescribed by the woman participant herself! A Creative Visualization exercise program was created for women wishing to work on their health issues, as a preventive measure and for their psychosomatic disorders. 6. WS Ps & Qs - Pictures & Questions Program: (An action-oriented Research & Documentation Project for women) PROGRAM OBJECTIVE: To help women unleash the ‘power’ and role of questioning in self-development and tap human rights, etc., while contributing to WS’ ‘Women’s Own ‘Q & A’ Bank for a higher purpose related to women’s lives. Some highlighted features:  Women’s questions collected are ‘anonymous’  Women are oriented and groomed as Lead facilitators for this program and facilitate the flow of women’s questions;  The Questions bank attracts answers from the WS Desk and gets transformed in due course to WS’ Q & A Bank  The Q & A bank is envisioned to serve as a source of Research & Documentation for WS as well as other research organizations having stakes in women’s development; The questions collected so far are being categorized into five fields for the time being namely, career, relationships, parenting, health, emotional wellness. We are still on the look-out for strategic tie-ups with various resource persons and institutions from the above fields for facilitating access to their expert opinions on the answers provided from our end. We eagerly look forward to our newly initiated ‘WS-HAS’ – Harnessing Synergies program which can attract the kind of stake holding envisioned by us for taking our mission forward and vibrant women and other bloggers analyzing their Qs and As!! Plans are afoot to bring this program under our ‘Research & Development’ wing to give a boost to women’s spirit of questioning and satiate their quest for answers through our various communication channels like our upcoming blogs, publications and so on, in the future. • 15. 15 VII. Our Interns & VOWS: As has always been so, there was a steady flow of youth from the student community this year as well, seeking opportunities to serve the public at large while gaining experience along many development fields of professional development. The portal www.internshala.com was identified to match our requirements with all such students seeking opportunities in the social sector and this year, we happened to hire an intern for completion of some tasks related to web development w.r.t certain sections of our website. One of our VOWS (Volunteers of WS) on our roster had shown exemplary zeal and enthusiasm in developing two new program/event logos related to our upcoming program – i) Women-Xpress & ii) WeMenXpress as seen here below: VIII. International Women’s Day Celebrations: This day which was celebrated on 12th March 2015, during the International Women’s Week, saw the coming together of women from varying backgrounds for sharing deep reflections around women’s development through several decades of the century. Ms. Vaidehi Krishnan narrated the history of women’s movements world over along with glimpses of the approaches towards development vis-à-vis women’s emancipation, growth and development along the tunnels of time. Enraptured participants also expressed their individual feelings and emotions hinged around development issues and their individual perspectives. IX. Blueprint for WS’ Resource Pool for Women: Early this year, seeds were sown to raise and grow our much-envisioned Resource pool to fuel our mission, as depicted in the form of our blueprint that follows: Women are coaxed to move on from their ‘IF’ Questions to the ‘HOW’ Questions for being SUCCESSFUL! -- Women’s Synergy A ‘joyous’, eclectic mix with the ‘spirit of togetherness ‘- on IWD 2016 – the very spirit which matters most to WS! • 16. 16 The success and the magical ‘caring and sharing’ spirit is what matters in making this dream of ours true. We expect this spirit of giving to help all contributors reap rich benefits and the desired gratification sought by them along with any or all of its indirect benefits in store for them. This would inspire them to hold the beacon for others to emulate them and take turns. So, we welcome everyone to experience the joy of participation in a manner of their own choice. X. Milestones; our Touchstones: Milestones are dreamt of much before getting materialized! Here are some of those materialized as well as some queued up in the pipeline! In every society, organization, or group, SOMETHING works! WS facilitates women’s discovering ’WHAT WORKS’ for them/their groups. 2. What we FOCUS ON becomes our reality. WS helps women develop positive focus, eg.: ‘`WOMEN CAN MAKE THIS WORLD A ‘SAFE’ PLACE TO LIVE’. 3. Reality is created IN THE MOMENT, and there are MULTIPLE REALITIES. WS facilitates the widening of women’s horizon to accept and accommodate many realities adopting the belief: ‘AS MANY REALITIES; AS MANY VIEW POINTS 4. The LANGUAGE WE USE creates our reality. WS helps women exercise ‘BENIGN ASSERTION’ along their paths of negotiation and emphasizes the importance of the ‘LANGUAGE ELEMENT’ while doing so. 5. The act of ASKING QUESTIONS of a group INFLUENCES it in some way. WS facilitates women’s articulation of their concern for self-development, human rights and so on, through THE ART OF QUESTIONING. 6. People have MORE CONFIDENCE AND COMFORT TO JOURNEY TO THE FUTURE (the unknown); when they CARRY FORWARD PARTS OF THE KNOWN. (PAST) WS orients apprises /orients women on ‘CALCULATIVE RISKS’ when venturing out of their zones while MANAGING CHANGE and facing associated challenges. 7. If we carry parts of the past forward, they should THEREFORE BE THE BEST ABOUT OUR PAST. WS facilitates the ‘SUPER-IMPOSING’ of women’s negative thoughts related to fear, anxiety etc., stemming out of their negative past experience, with PLEASANT MEMORIES attached to their success, cordial relationships & happy moments of THEIR PAST. 8. It is important to HONOUR/VALUE DIFFERENCES. WS stimulates women’s thoughts on this importance, for e.g., while they encounter challenges related to handling their relationships within their families and groups of people from divergent backgrounds at their respective places of work, society and so on.
  • 19. 19 The ten tenets or principles – (five core and five emergent) related to our philosophy, ‘Appreciative Inquiry’ are being interwoven with our approach, methodologies, training sessions and activities as far as possible and wherever appropriate, as has been described in our various programs detailed above, and are portrayed as a ‘recap’ in the table here below: Thus, ‘AL’ or Appreciative Living, adapted from the above tenets of our underpinning philosophy, AI, is steadily getting reinforced keeping the ‘Assumptions’ seen listed in ‘Annexure I.’ at the backdrop. All these are gradually getting blended into our mission related activities and programs., development of WS as an organization as well as scope for adoption of these in the individual lives of women. (For enquiries about our AI orientation programs on offer, please get in touch with us!) THE FIVE CORE PRINCIPLES OF AI: ANTICIPATORY; SIMULTANEITY; CONSTRUCTIONIST; POETIC & POSITIVE; + THE FIVE EMERGENT PRINCIPLES OF AI: WHOLENESS; ENACTMENT; FREEDOM OF CHOICE; AWARENESS & NARRATIVE. • 23. 23 ANNEXURE 4 – TESTIMONIALS "We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that drop.” -- Mother Teresa “It was nice talking to you. I appreciate your efforts to help and empower women through your activities. I also appreciate your involvement in environmental protection. It is really great to see your spontaneous talent in creating a beautiful poem on parrot keeping the feature of parrot in your mind. Please continue the efforts. Wish you all the best.” Dr. Vincent, Environmentalist, Chennai M very lucky to have someone so elderly n dearly from out there .... so far away yet trying to make me feel better in my current tumultuous time ...literally going through hell. Love u (thinking of u as my mother n in her place) Vydehi ma'am. Miss u. Shweta (Name changed)– excerpts of email from an outstation TIS participant Dear Vaidehi, Hope you are doing well back in Delhi. My apologies for being so slow to reply. • 24. 24 “Women’s Synergy (WS) is an awe-inspiring platform created by motivated women, for women. A place to share our concerns and also our skills, and at the same time, to learn and grow. I wish WS all the very best, for all its initiatives and programs. If there is a need for any of my skills and expertise, I would be delighted to contribute and make a difference to one individual, or a group. In the process become a partner in making our world more joyful, peaceful and loving.” Ms. Savita Wakhlu, Delhi “Hello WS team, First of all I apologize for not being in touch through mails since the time we all met on the Women's day. I must appreciate the heartily efforts of Vydehi Ji for clubbing the women and tapping their inner power within. On Women's day we all gathered at WS, since most of us were meeting each other for the first time but with taking not much time we started mingled with each other so wonderfully that soon were enjoying and flowing along with the beautiful energy within our group. The question bank is another wonderful thing what I feel. This is the best way to bringing out our core concerns and getting the answers so nicely. Not only I got the answer of my question from the experts but I also got to know additional common concerns too.” Anu, Delhi Dear Mam, Greetings, it’s really so nice of you to have taken out your precious time to answer those queries and I could understand that it needs something much more than experience and maturity to answer all of them appropriately. Your answer to my question, "How to identify the inner strength and utilize it" was very thoughtful and deeper. I would rate it 5/5. Also, I liked the other answers and feel that everyone will be satisfied. Thank you so much. Regards, Ruchi.
