Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD) and Weapons Policy
Inter-College Residents’ Association
In accordance with the Pacific Affiliate of the NACURH Association of College and University
Residence Halls, Inc. (PACURH/NACURH), alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs are nationally
recognized as substances, which may have a negative effect on the lives of college students. As a
leadership organization, which works largely with college students under the legal drinking age, the
Inter-College Residents’ Association (ICRA) at the University of California, San Diego, (UCSD)
recognizes that alcohol is not needed for a good time or to promote positive growth. Illicit drugs can
be lethal. UCSD is a smoke and tobacco-free institution. Therefore, it is our expectation that all
members of the ICRA community in attendance at all of our meetings, events, and other functions
agree to not be in possession of or under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. Further, ICRA is a
weapons free organization and therefore, will not condone individuals being in possession of or
using a weapon. In the event that anyone is found in possession of a weapon, or possession of or
under the influence of alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs, the individual in question will be removed
from the program, and documentation of the incident will be referred to the UCSD Office of Student
Conduct and may result in disciplinary action.
All members of the ICRA community (including, but not limited to, members, student leaders, staff,
and volunteers) found in violation of the ICRA ATOD and Weapons Policy may be placed on “bad
standing” status with ICRA for a length of time determined by the ICRA Advisor and/or ICRA
President. Being in “bad standing” will result in a loss of ICRA membership privileges for a period
determined by the ICRA Advisor and/or the ICRA President. The method of enforcement will be at
the discretion of the ICRA Advisor and/or the ICRA President. Adherence to this policy will be
enforced by the ICRA Advisor and/or ICRA President.
As a value, we will present this to our members as an expectation at our meetings, events, and social
gatherings. In addition, the statement below will be included on all forms and websites used for
members to attend, RSVP for, or volunteer for an ICRA or ICRA-related event, and on the contracts
for the ICRA and NRHH executive board members, as a reminder that their participation includes an
adherence to this policy.
“By completing the form below and completing the sign-up for ____________________ (ICRA
program/gathering) I acknowledge that I understand the ICRA ATOD and Weapons Policy
concerning the use or possession of alcohol, drugs, and weapons and agree to adhere to this policy
and the UCSD Student Code of Conduct during my participation in all parts of this event. I am aware
that failure to adhere to these policies will result in my removal from the program and that a report
will be submitted for consideration for disciplinary action by my undergraduate college or the UCSD
Office of Student Conduct. I further understand that my inadherence to the ICRA ATOD and
Weapons Policy may result in being in “bad standing” with ICRA, resulting in a loss of ICRA
membership privileges for a period determined by the ICRA Advisor and/or the ICRA President.”
