M2MFM is a process of getting churches involved with Ministry to the Military. The one pressing need for M2MFM is the Chapel Youth Program at Garrison Fort Sam Houston in Joint Base San Antonio.

3. History of M2MFM
•
Predecessors
– The Churches and The Chaplaincy by Richard Hutchison
– Ministry with the Military by Hadley and Richards
•
1999 – Ministry to the Military(M2M) was written
as research project in seminary
•
2000 – First M2M was start by getting civilian
ministry students involved with Dyess Air Force
Base Chapel Youth Ministry
4. History of M2MFM
•
2001 – M2M was expand to include ministry to
families by augmenting family readiness groups.
•
2010 – 35 volunteers in Ministry to the military
provide Vacation Bible School for one week to 50
children on Reserve Component installation
•
2013 – A Reserve Component unit trains and brings
one line Assistant Chaplain Volunteers (catholic
deacons) to provide Lay Eucharist services at 4 of 6
locations

− Parents are child's first spiritual fitness trainer
and/or religious leader.
− Youth ministry provides events to help the parents
accomplish that mission.

14. Volunteer Benefits
•
All Volunteers
– will be considered DOD employees and be covered for
liability issues under workman’s compensation
– get their hours tracked by the Youth Ministry
Coordinator(YMC). Upon request, chaplain will certify
hours worked
– automatically get permission to use the YMC as
reference on job and school applications and obtain a
letter of recommendation on their behalf sent upon
request
15. Volunteers Benefits
•
If Volunteer is Service member of a Army, Navy, Air
Force, and Marines, their hours are automatically
tracked to earn toward the Military Outstanding
Volunteer Service Medal
•
If Volunteers actions are recognized by the local
commander and chaplain, the commander and/or
chaplain has the discretion to write a letter of
recommendation for the volunteer and service as a
reference
