WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT?
Barbados is a Caribbean island situated between the Caribbean Sea and the
Atlantic Ocean. The island won its independence in 1651 and now its
popularity is increasing with tourists and even celebs being spotted in
Rihanna’s home town.
This tropical island is beautiful and really looks like a painted-picture with its
bright blue sea and pure, white sand. The south coast beaches are especially
popular; for example the Crane Beach has the perfect waves to explore lots
of different water sports from bodyboarding, windsurfing or jet skiing.
Barbados’s coastline is one in a million and what better way to explore the depths
of its clear water than to snorkel! By adventuring into the deep blue you can
be promised to see corals bursting with life and even turtles if you’re lucky.
Catamaran trips are a perfect trip away from your hotel, allowing you to catch
some rays with a cocktail in hand and Bajan food in another. Try Cool
Runnings for a fun day out that promises a party for all ages.
TOP PLACES TO VISIT
Barbados may be a small island but it has many interesting places to explore:
Bridgetown: Barbados’s capital Bridgetown is always full with tourists and
provides you with all you need. You can shop until your heart’s content with
the added bonus of duty free shopping. Cave Shepard is a big favourite,
providing designer labels, alcohol, tobacco and makeup - all without the VAT!
Harrisons Cave: Harrisons Cave is a natural wonder that all the family can enjoy.
It is built up of crystalized limestone and home to streams, waterfalls,
cascades, and deep pools. There are a number of options to explore the cave
itself; with a tram tour your knowledge will deepen with the help of a guide in
just 1 hour.
Bathsheba: This quaint village is more than what you’d expect; the Bathsheba
Beach- also known as the Soup Bowl- hosts large rock formations and rough
waves making it a hot spot for surfers. The extremity of the waters means it is
dangerous to swim in, however this is not just a place for the surfers, many
people gather at Bathsheba to view the beautiful scenery which is great
opportunity for photographs.

CULTURE
Barbados’s most popular sport is cricket with its cricket team having won
numerous regional titles.
When exploring the island it is clear that religion plays a significant role in
Bajan culture due to the numerous churches and cathedrals, with Saint
Michael Cathedral in Bridgetown another tourist attraction. Up to 95% of
people identify themselves as Christian, and their faith is celebrated at
an annual festival, Gospelfest.
There is a selection of festivals in Barbados with their largest and most
important being Crop Over, which celebrates the end of the sugarcane
harvest. It lasts for three weeks and includes fairs, parades, and
contests.
