1. Q:-Why are plastics considered a threat to our environment?
Ans:- Plastics are non-biodegradable materials. Plastics take several years to decompose. When
plastic is burnt to get rid of waste, it releases poisonous gases into the atmosphere causing air
pollution. Sometimes, the animals like cows eat up the plastic material along with left-over food
thrown on roadside which chokes their respiratory system and can be the cause of their death.
The plastic bags thrown here and there in the streets and bazars may block the sewage system.
This makes the dirty sewage water flowing into streets or roads causing many diseases. So
plastics are considered a threat to our environment
Q:- WHAT IS PLASTICS
plastic is a synthetic polymer material derived from natural gas and crude oil plasticity is the
main property of the material it is widelwuse in domestic and industrial set-ups . Due to
plasticity it can be moulded , extruded and compressed into various solid intricate shapes . It is
second widely used material after steel .
PLASTIC FACTS
Plastic is us produced from fossil fuels , its is a great threat to our atmosphere.
Plastic recycling can save upto 88percent of energy that is required to produce new plastic from
raw material.
The earth can be circled four times with plastic waste , that produces every year
Only 23 percent of disposable water bottle recycle that is produced in the world.
Plastic bags may tale 1000 years to decompose.
since then today we produce 400 million tons Plastic bags every year.
In an average less than 20 percent of these bags are getting recycled
ITS EFFECTS ON ENVIRONMENT
Plastic is one of the toxic non biodegradable pollutants ,which pollutes land ,air, water etc.
Plastics cause serious damage to the environment both during manufacture and during its
disposal.
The manufacture of plastics in industries releases huge quantity of carbon monoxide , dioxin,
hydrogen cyanide and VOC's.
These gases pollute air seriously.
Being a non-biodegradable material land filling with plastics preserves the poisons forever.
NEGATIVE IMPACT OF PLASTIC ON LAND
Plastic pollution on land is both physical and chemical.
Plastic reduces soil fertility by forming the part of manure for years.
2. Plastics in soil can lessen the growth of plants and trees by blocking the absorption of minerals,
water and other nutrients.
Plastics can cause land slides.
