3. Still One
• Tracking and Pan shots are commonly used in
the opening of thrillers, the still in the shot
above is halfway through a panning shot. A
good example of this is in the bank heist scene
in the Dark Night where the camera pans and
tracks the characters. I feel we have used this
convention in our film.
5. Stills Two and Three
• Both these slides contain close ups of the
characters, which is a common convention of
the opening sequence of a thriller as it allows
the audience to get a better look at the
characters facial expression and features. Also
in both of these shots, the characters are in
the center of the screen, which is common
because it is the first introduction of the
characters to the audience.
7. Still Four
• Another convention of thrillers is lots of high
angle shots, and in this still, there is one. High
angle shots are used to create power and
status so the audience can see in the shot who
the director wants to have higher power. This
is used in many thrillers such as Terminator
Two and Kill Bill 1&2
9. Still Five
• Location is an important convention for
thrillers, and in this still, its shows that its an
empty forest area, with no one around, which
is quite typical in thrillers. Also, the lighting is
Light enough for the audience to tell that it is
daytime, meaning the audience would not
really expect an attack on the character in
shot.
11. Still Six
• Sound is an important part of Thrillers as it
helps create mood and atmosphere, and if you
use the wrong sounds, you will create the
wrong atmosphere. You Obviously cant hear
it, but this part of the film is where some
organs kick in in the score, which gives a eerie
feel to this character as this is the first time we
are introduced to him.
