Armageddon
And one more time and again ... Again, the whole world is in danger of death.
This time it is a giant asteroid (its small fragments destroy entire large metropolises)
approaching our beloved planet, which will inevitably collide with it causing unimaginable
destruction. But dear, calm, no panic. We'll send a group of brave Americans specializing in
oil production to space, and everything will be fine. The situation outlined above is the
starting point for the costly production directed by Michael Bay, who, before starting
"Armageddon", made his appearance in the movie world by making two very successful films
- "Twierdza" and the hit comedy "Bad Boys". Unfortunately, let's say it now: "Armageddon" is
a much worse film. The main character is surly, having problems with the daughter (as usual
charming Liv Tyler) Harry Stamper (Bruce Willis), the head of the aforementioned group,
whose task is to make a borehole in the asteroid, where a powerful explosive should be
placed in order to tear the nasty body in half. and change the trajectory of her flight.
You have to send this group - no idea about flying into space, because ordinary astronauts
can not handle it. The viewer has to swallow the somewhat thick threaded logic, otherwise
there would be no film at all.
Harry's band goes fast (very fast, after all, you have to save the world!) Space training, so
that people know more or less what it's eating and playing. In two shuttles - "Freedom" and
"Independence" - "Freedom" and "Independence" (as it could be differently) our heroes move
to action. Intelligently made sublime scenes, dispensed discreetly and at the right moments,
can please and increase the value of each production, but in Armageddon, it is shown how it
should not be done. The amount of intrusive force is directly proportional to the size of the
asteroid that rushes towards the Earth. Sequence after the sequence "shot after shooting -
just unbearable!" We were also shown a show of typical, 100% "impossibilities", which I
manage to do, please understand me well - I have nothing against "impossibilities" in the
cinema, but in movies serious (and the "Armageddon" pretends to be such), the shadow of
realism should be preserved, because otherwise the whole thing loses credibility left. Me
personally, in some moments of the film, I will not reveal what would not spoil the surprise to
those who did not see the film, the jaw dropped The psychology of the leading characters is
not the best - they are schematic, not very true, and the final transformation of Stamper
seems to me some kind of forced, sugary, I've got enough of it, now let's go to positives. The
biggest one is called Lev Andropov, Peter Stormare (formerly performed in a nice way)
among others in the films "Mercury Code" and "Big Lebowski") - a positively freaked Russian
cosmonaut, who more than once saves our heroes from oppression.
For this character, it is worth seeing "Armageddon".
Lev is an individual, not enough. Movie heroes like him are not quickly forgotten. Certainly
special character specialties are to be praised - shuttle maneuvers in a meteor swarm make
a big impression. In addition, the film, I must admit, quite effectively, promoted the song of
the band "Aerosmith", which instantly became a hit, which should also be counted as a plus
of Bay's film. If the viewer wants to see something light, simple and unbelievable and agrees
to the typical American "flowers" to which the creators of the ocean have a weakness, then
"Armageddon" does not look bad at all. Time flows quickly and you do not stress.
However, the problem lies in the fact that this man, according to the assumptions of the
filmmakers, had to get a little bit pushed, because "Armageddon" was supposed to raise
adrenaline. This plan could not be implemented, hence my following verdict is that and not
the other one.
