7. The composer Vangelis
Papathanasiou
Vangelis Papathanassiou (aka Vangelis) was
born 29 March 1943 in Greece in a village near
Volos.
He didn’t study music, he was a self-taught
artist. He started composing at the age of 4.
8. HONOURS N' LEGACY
In 1989 received Max Steiner Award. France made Vangelis
a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in 1992, and Chevalier
de la Legion d’ Honneur in 2001. In 1993 received music award
Apollo by Friends of the Athens National Opera Society. In 1995,
Vangelis had a minor planet named after him (6354 Vangelis) by
the International Astronomical Union’s Minor Planet Center
(MPC) at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory
He got the largest honor at the age of 39 when he won the
academy award for the best soundtrack from the 1982 movie
“Chariots of fire” . You can hear the song from the movie
